Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Frank's first live performance

A truly special moment for all of our residents here at Melbourn Springs as we welcomed our very first live Singer – Frank!

Our residents enjoyed Prosecco with their Afternoon Tea and had a good sing along to some of their favourite classics and Musical showstoppers. We were also treated to some tunes on the Harmonica and Trumpet too!

Audrey added, “We all had a lovely afternoon! Frank is very talented and it certainly brought the memories flooding back!”

Happy Birthday Doreen and Audrey

We didn’t have one but two special birthday ladies at Melbourn Springs this week. Doreen and Audrey celebrated their special days with Cake, Flowers, Family, Friends, Pimms and Prosecco of course!

Audrey said, “It really has been a marvellous day and thank you to everyone for making it so very special!” To which Doreen added, “I’ve been well and truly spoilt – thank you so much!”

Blenheim Palace Gardens Visit

Our residents at Melbourn Springs enjoyed a virtual tour of the gardens at Blenheim Palace and notably learnt how they have developed over the past 300 years - courtesy of Historian, Antonia Kearney.

It was a super afternoon and very poignant for one resident who had actually been evacuated to the Palace during the War!

“I went with my brother and sister and we were there for quite a while! We didn’t see much of the Palace but we all enjoyed our time there and the Gardens were terrific!"

And what better way to end the day with a few games of Fun Bingo – which has definitely become a staple favourite at Melbourn Springs.

Wimbledon and the Euros final celebrations

Melbourn Springs residents and staff certainly got into the sporting spirit with a weekend full of Football and Tennis! And of course no event would be complete without a delicious British Picnic and our resident Joy singing, “It’s coming home!” Unfortunately it didn’t come home but we all had a super weekend anyway!

Lavender and Wildflowers in full bloom

What a difference a year makes!!! Our beautiful home gardens are full of gorgeous Lavender and the Bees certainly love it too! Not to mention our Wildflowers which are, “absolutely delightful!” according to our residents and visitors to Melbourn Springs.

First home Church Service

This has been a long time coming since our home blessing last year and lots of Zoom Services since. However, on Thursday 1st July 2021 our staff and residents were delighted to welcome Reverend Mary Price and Lay reader Pat Smith from All Saints', Melbourn and Holy Trinty, Meldreth for our very first church service at Melbourn Springs.

The service reflected on love and how it has presented itself in many different ways over the last year - which definitely struck a chord with residents and staff alike.

Resident Audrey said, “It was so good to come together in fellowship and I am very much looking forward to our next service too. Thank you to Mary and Pat – it really was a very special morning!”
