Iris Court Care Home in Gosmore

Iris Court, is a brand new purpose-built care home in Gosmore near Hitchin, that will open its doors in Spring 2024. The home is specifically designed to deliver first class residential and dementia care for older people in a homely, yet secure environment. Our experienced and dedicated team will be ready to deliver exceptional standards of compassionate care, which focuses on the individual needs of each resident.

Care will be focused on independence, dignity and choice, with a person-centred approach. Meals will be freshly prepared on-site by trained chefs, who will offer a range of nutritious and tasty food, catering for special dietary requirements when needed.

The home will feature a wide range of facilities including a café with outdoor seating serving tea, coffee and delicious homemade cakes, dining rooms with garden access ideal for summer nights, a cinema to watch the classics and a relaxing spa bathroom located on each floor of the home. As with all Barchester homes, there will be a full and varied schedule of virtual and live activities each and every day which residents are welcome to get involved in as much or as little as they wish.

For those living with dementia, there will be a dedicated area called Memory Lane which will offer high quality care and thoughtful touches to help make life easier. For example features include a Magic Table – this is an interactive light projector that was originally developed in The Netherlands. It's a specialist piece of technology designed to support residents living with dementia. Additionally, our interior space, colours and bedrooms are all designed to help with difficulties associated with dementia.

The care we provide will be delivered in a way that promotes independence for those who live in our home. Where possible, it is important that residents are encouraged to perform daily tasks independently or with minor support. Our services will be devised with individualised treatment in mind for each person, so getting to know everyone and understanding their needs is imperative to delivering bespoke, person-centred care

Hi, I am Babu the Senior General Manager for Iris Court care home. I am so proud to be able to lead a team of great carers at this beautiful new care home.

My vision is to build on the foundations that have been handed over to me and create a wonderful and person centred care facility to aid the lives of all of our residents. We will not only provide the highest levels of care in a premium environment, but will also deliver an individual plan for every resident to ensure that their lives are truly enriched.

I am originally from the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka which itself is a beautiful part of the world. I am a very proud husband and father to two beautiful daughters who motivate and support me every single day. It is this blessing that makes me a better leader as I am always striving to ensure that the way I would want my own loved ones to be cared for is exactly what my team and I will do every day.

I have worked in the care sector for over 15 years now, and began my career as a carer. I loved the role so much that I knew that I wanted to make a career of it and today I find myself at the helm of a beautiful new care home. I have gained many qualifications over the years including a level 5 NVQ in leadership and management. I have run care homes for a number of years now and prior to joining Barchester Healthcare one of my proudest achievements was being able to take on care homes which faced a number of challenges and with my passion and determination I always left them in a much better place than I found them in. This resulted in me being promoted to regional director where I then had the pleasure of looking after 8 care homes. Ultimately my achievements in this company earned me the prestigious award of care home manager of the year.

I am so looking forward to leading a new team of carers who share my vision and I know that the residents who will start to make up the community at Iris Court will receive the very best environment, cuisine and most importantly care to enjoy every day.
