Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Twiddle Muffs from Royston Pasque Flowers W.I

A huge thank you to North Herts District Councillor Jean Green and Joyce Goodall from the Royston Pasque Flowers W.I for your kind donation of Twiddle Muffs for our Elstar Memory Lane Dementia Community.

It really was so kind of you and our residents are very taken by them already!

Look forward to welcoming you again properly soon ladies and thank you once again from all of the team and residents here at Melbourn Springs.

Quoits and Sunshine

Nothing like a game of Quoits in the beautiful sunshine. There were certainly some interesting throwing methods which had us all in fits of laughter. Huge well done to Vera though with a winning score of 35!!!

The Crown

Our residents are thoroughly enjoying watching the Crown together each week and it certainly has brought back a lot of memories to share – especially over a fresh Cream Éclair or two!

Music Therapy with Together in Sound

What a perfect way to mark Dementia Awareness week as we welcomed Orla from Together in Sound Music Therapy and Anglia Ruskin University to our very first session together at Melbourn Springs. Up until now the sessions have been online so this truly was a very special moment.

The aim of the sessions is to bring the power of music to those living with dementia and together the focus is on joint music-making and listening - with the goal of supporting communication, relationships, and increasing quality of life through a collaborative group process.

We all absolutely loved our first session Orla and really cannot wait for next week!

Congratulations Iris

“Where has that year gone?!?”

Our first resident to move into Melbourn Springs (Iris) marked her first year at the home in style - and Karen, Dan and the team were on hand to mark the special day with Roses, Truffles and Iris’s very own Victoria Sponge - expertly prepared by our hugely talented Second Chef Annie.

“I am just so happy here!” said Iris “And highly recommend it!”

*Watch out for our official first birthday celebrations - details will be released once restrictions allow us to mark this special occasion properly.

Such lovely feedback...

Such kind words from the daughter or one of our residents. This absolutely means the world to all of the team here at Melbourn Springs and we are delighted with your lovely feedback and 5* review - thank you so, so much!
