Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Cheese and Wine Tasting afternoon

One of today’s activities was Wine and Cheese tasting. This went down an absolute treat with our residents.

We had lots of different varieties of Cheese and Wine including alcoholic and and non-alcoholic too - what a perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon!

Afternoon Tea and Singalong

Tea with freshly made Scones - complete with Jam and Cream!

Our residents enjoyed a good old singalong and there was laughter all round as everyone enjoyed the delicious Afternoon Tea hosted by our Activities Coordinator - Sam.

Another special memory shared together at Melbourn Springs on what truly was a lovely afternoon.

Les performs for us

Our residents and staff at Melbourn Springs were delighted to welcome Les to perform for us. The sing-along was thoroughly enjoyed and Les sure didn’t disappoint! “What a fantastic afternoon - he really is very talented and the strength in his voice is tremendous!” said Vera.

You certainly have the seal of approval Les and we all look forward to welcoming you back very soon!

Also, a big thank you to Andy from Newlings of Royston for enabling this to happen - it has been a long time coming but was well worth the wait and so good to welcome you and Les in our home!

Baking Club

Victoria Sponge, Lemon Curd Sponge and Sugar Free Cupcakes were on the menu in our Baking Club with our Activities Coordinator Sam this week.

Our residents certainly didn’t disappoint and Joy - (who “has been baking Cakes for years!”) certainly shared some top baking tips too!

The final results were absolutely delicious and thoroughly enjoyed with fresh, hot Cup of Tea.

Higher or Lower?!?

Higher or lower comes in more ways than one! Movement to music style and in Card games too!

Our residents have had a fun filled morning and have certainly worked up an appetite ready for their delicious lunch.

Fun Games Afternoon

Who doesn’t love getting their thinking caps on at our fun games afternoon - including; Who am I?!”, Kerplunk, Ludo and Boggle!

Brian was the overall winner at Boggle and blew the competition out of the water whilst Rosina added, “ I don’t know how I’ve won this Plunk game but it sure was fun!”
