Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

A trip to the Garden Centre

We had another little day-trip yesterday which saw us taking the residents over to Bury Lane Farm Shop to have a look at their beautiful festive decorations. Of course, whilst we were there we treated ourselves a cheeky mocha and shortbread....yum yum!!
Regularly popping out for coffee, pub lunches, mini-bus trips, and other outings is an essential part of our weekly activity calendar.

We will remember them

We were proud to be part of the Remembrance Day parade through Melbourn Village yesterday as we paid our respects to all of the Men and Women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. It is always a time of deep reflection for our residents and every year they want to be a part of the parade.

Once back at the home there was a lovely hot drink and biscuits waiting for the residents.

We will also be observing the two-minute silence today at 11:00 as we remember the guns falling silent.

We will remember them...

Fireworks Nights at Melbourn Springs

We had an amazing Fireworks Night at Melbourn Springs with our residents, families and other guest enjoying a wide range of spectacular and colourful fireworks along with sparklers.
Hot drinks and snacks were also provided for everybody and we there were lots of very happy faces at the end of the show!!
National celebrations and family-friendly events are just some of the ways that we ensure the residents at Melbourn Springs remain connected with their loved ones and the wider community.

The Magic of Music

We had another musical filled afternoon when the excellent Cara Bo came to Melbourn Springs to sing for the residents and their families. Cara is very well liked by the residents and she always interacts and makes every song feel personal to everybody in the room.
The methods and mediums may change but the heart of live music - the communal joy, the shared emotions, the collective energy - remains untouched. As we look to the future, one thing is clear: live music will continue to be a cherished experience at Melbourn Springs, even as its form and format evolve.

Pebbles and Bubbles come to say hello

Residents and staff enjoyed a visit from Pebbles the Pony and Bubbles the Dog. Both Pebbles and Bubbles were on their best behaviour as they took time to get to know everybody.
One of the residents said how lovely it was that they had both visited her in her room and how, when she tells her son about it he will ask her if she has been drinking as a pony doesn't usually turn up in your room!!!
Residents at Melbourn Springs love the animal interaction sessions that our dedicated Activities Team organise. As one of the foundations of our Life Enrichment program, we know that animal interactions can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health.

A day out in Duxford

A perfect day was had by all when we visited the Imperial War Museum, Duxford yesterday.
It was especially poignant for our resident, John, who worked in the aviation industry and was able to name every plane that was in the aircraft hangar, which was very impressive.
We finished the day by having a hot drink in the American café before heading back to Melbourn Springs full of new memories.
A massive thank you to all the staff at Imperial War Museum Duxford who were very helpful and do an amazing job in keeping the museum a great place to visit for all ages.
