Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

The residents' had a very musical afternoon when they were treated to another live performance by the brilliant Les.  There was a lot of singing and a lot of dancing from residents and staff alike as a full range of songs from yesterday and more recent filled the home. One of the cornerstones of our life enrichment program is live musical entertainment. Resident involvement in choosing genres along with feedback after each performance means that we are able to constantly improve our activities calendar.

The return of our ever popular 'Cream Tea Social' was very well received by our residents and their families. Freshly baked scones with fresh cream and jam were served along with a nice cup of tea or whatever other tipple our residents fancied. There was also a little game of scrabble going on as well. Ensuring that we host events that relatives and friends can join is very important to us here at Melbourn Springs.

We enjoyed our first visit of 2025 to Dobbies in Royston where the residents had a look around before settling down for a well earned coffee and cake.
 We always receive such a lovely reception when we go to Dobbies and cannot thank the staff more for how welcoming they are.
 Regularly popping out for coffee, pub lunches, mini-bus trips, and other outings is an essential part of our weekly activity calendar.

We have continued our busy start to 2025 with a visit to see the amazing firefighters at Royston Fire Station.We enjoyed a tour of the station and had a good look at all of the equipment they use as well as the Fire Engines. We were given a very special lights display from the Fire Engine before the team at the station shared tea and cakes with us whilst answering any questions that the residents had (and there were plenty!!!).We ended our visit with a picture in front of the Fire Engine before coming back to Melbourn Springs full of excitement.Massive thank you to the staff at Royston Fire Station. We hope to visit you again soon.

Some of our residents and staff were lucky enough to attend the Pantomine, Cinderella, at the St Albans Arena at the weekend. One of our residents has a son who is an actor and he was playing one of the ugly sisters. He was kind enough to offer us some complimentary tickets so we jumped aboard the minibus and off we went!! A great time was had by all with lots of fun and laughter and even a brief bit of snow. Each residents received a free programme and enjoyed a tub of ice cream during the interval.
 We owe a massive thank you to Bob Golding and the cast of Cinderella.

We had a very special birthday at Melbourn Springs as our amazing resident John celebrated his 90th birthday in style. There was a lot of fuss for John and our chef, Sean, made sure the day was made complete with a homemade cake which John was very happy to share with his friends at the home. Here at Melbourn Springs we celebrate birthdays not just as a mark of ageing another year but as a celebration of life, achievements, and personal growth. Birthdays provide a special opportunity for us to help residents to gather with loved ones and create lasting memories. Happy Birthday John. We hope your day was as amazing as you are!!
