Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

To the Horseracing!

Melbourn Springs goes to the Races!

Our residents donned Hats and fascinators kindly donated by the lovely ladies of Melbourn and Royston and there was lots of fun and laughter choosing a favourite.

Winning horses were picked, bets were placed and they were off! Shouts of support could be heard as the first triumphant horse crossed the line.

We were also treated to Bucks Fizz, Prosecco and canapés made by Phil, our super chef too.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and plans are already being made for our next 'meeting'. Thankfully no real money was exchanged as Babs and Jeanette bet everything they had!!!

Out and about in Cambridge

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed exploring Cambridge this week on our home Minibus - remembering Restaurants, the odd Pub or two and streets that they all knew well.

Doreen was keen to "have a go" on one of the Electric Scooters but was persuaded to wait for the next trip to Cambridge and enjoyed a Kitkat instead!

Mother's Day at Melbourn Springs

Today we celebrated Mother's Day with cards expressing love, beautiful smelling bouquets and delicious boxes of chocolates! Some of our residents were treated to lunch with their families, whilst those who remained at Melbourn Springs enjoyed a scrumptious Roast Lamb lunch with all the trimmings - expertly cooked by our wonderful chef, Phil.

Happy faces were all around having enjoyed phone calls, facetime chats and visits.  We then distributed sweet smelling Dianthus to all our ladies to let them know how special they are to us!

Red Nose Day 2022

What a fantastic Red Nose Day we shared at Melbourn Springs fundraising and enjoying special Red Nose Cupcakes  in addition to special guest appearances from various characters including; Mr and Mrs Potato Head (A.K.A Denise - our Activities Coordinator and resident Joyce) who added, “Never in my life did I think I would dress up as a Potato but now is as good a day as any to start!”

And a very big thank you to the Denise whom we think you will agree is hugely talented making such terrific costumes!

Mini Bus Excursion to Thriplow Daffodils

What a truly super week we have shared here at Melbourn Springs as we christened our home Minibus ‘Muriel’ for a delightful trip out together with our Activities Team - Denise and Siobhan.

Never mind Tiptoeing through the Tulips we have been Dancing in the Daffodils as our residents visited Thriplow to see the start of over 500,000 Daffodils flowering prior to the famous weekend event.

The sun was shining, spring has well and truly sprung and our resident Betty added, “Thank so much for organising this trip out - it really was absolutely delightful!”

Reminiscence Time

Here at Melbourn Springs our residents enjoyed an afternoon of reflection about the past and also brought along special items that enabled us to reminisce together. As you can imagine there certainly were a lot of interesting stories shared and everyone truly had a lovely afternoon.
