Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Life of Foxes - Presentation by Simon Watts

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Simon Watts from WILD presentations to Melbourn Springs for a comprehensive exploration into the dynamics of a Fox family based in an allotment near Coventry.

Simon’s film, presentation and Q&A was absolutely fantastic and certainly prompted some interesting discussions afterwards.

Thank you very much Simon from all of our residents and staff here at Melbourn Springs.

Happy Birthday Chandra

It was a special birthday this week at a Melbourn Springs as our dear resident Chandra celebrated her 80th in style.

And what better way to mark the day - with not one Birthday Cake but a Milk Rice Cake too! - specifically requested by Chandra as it brings back fond memories of her childhood.

The cake was indeed absolutely gorgeous and there was not a single piece left after Chandra’s birthday celebrations.

Vegetarian Week Cooking Demo and Taster session

Head Chef Trevor blew us all away with his culinary delights as we marked Vegetarian Week at Melbourn Springs.

Our residents enjoyed a virtual cooking demonstration by Alex Connell at Vegetarian for Life and everyone agreed that tasting the recipes over lunch was the unanimous highlight.

The Butternut Squash and Mac and Cheese Risotto was certainly popular but we can assure you that the Chocolate Mousse complete with Piped Biscuits and the Autumnal spiced Flapjacks did not stick around for long either! They were indeed - “delicious!”

Halloween Fun

Happy Halloween from all of our team and residents here at Melbourn Springs and a big thank you to Pumpkin Jim's for our Pumpkins!

Needless to say we had a fun filled afternoon Pumpkin Carving - lots of concentration, laughter and some spectacular spooky designs too.

Bernie Keyte 1964 Variety Show

This has been a long time coming but we were finally able to welcome Bernie Keyte to Melbourn Springs with his 1964 variety show.

Bernie’s show really was something else and included; quizzes, singalongs, name that tune, custom made badges, Trophies and cards for audience participation!

Vera, Brian and Jeanette won Trophies and Joy and Audrey even received CD’s from Bernie’s Radio Show!

“Well that was a super afternoon!” said Rosina – “I’ve never seen anyone as energetic as Bernie and we all thoroughly enjoyed his show!”

Author - Mike Gayle Presentation

Our residents at Melbourn Springs had the chance to virtually meet author, Mike Gayle this week.

It was a fantastic afternoon and we were even treated to some excerpts from Mike’s most recent book - ‘All the Lonely People'

Our resident Jeanette added, “What it takes to be an author! He certainly was very interesting to listen to!”
