Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Film Nights And Donations

After a meeting this week it was mentioned that the residents would like to watch Anne of Green Gables, which unfortunately we don’t have in our collection. So our Activities Coordinator Sophie put a post on Facebook to see if anyone in the local community would allow us to borrow a copy.

An amazing lady called Ange Knight said she had it in her loft and that we were welcome to it, but after looking Ange discovered it wasn’t in her loft so very kindly purchased and donated it to us!

She also gave us Pride And Prejudice and My Fair Lady. Another gentleman call Ken Law saw the Facebook post and got in touch to donate lots of films for the residents.

The residents also chose Erin Brockovich to watch this week and had homemade popcorn fresh from the machine too.

A perfect way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Spreading the festive cheer with AGE UK Hertfordshire

Dan, our Home Services Advisor joined forces with Kate Efford from AGE UK Hertfordshire, Club Supervisor to deliver 20 festive goody bags to members of their warden scheme in and around Royston and surrounding villages.

The bags contained delicious homemade Mince Pies, Sausage Rolls and Shortbread - expertly crafted by the home’s hospitality team. Needless to say that they were gratefully accepted and the tasty treats thoroughly enjoyed.

Dan added, “I am so thankful to Trudie Harrington and Kate Efford from AGE UK Hertfordshire for enabling us to join them in delivering a little something to cheer everyone up. After all everyone has been through this year it really is the least we can do - Merry Christmas one and all and here’s a better 2021 too!”

Melbourn Springs team among the first to receive COVID vaccine

Staff at Melbourn Springs Care Home are delighted to have been invited to have the COVID vaccination at Addenbrokes Hospital which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year.

General Manager, Karen Allen said: “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel. Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Karina Rogerson, who was the second member of the home team to receive the vaccine said: “I am so pleased to be given the vaccine. It will help to keep our residents safe, and is the first step in getting things back to normal. Our Visiting Suite is working marvellously but it will be great to have the buzz of visitors in the home once again soon hopefully.”
