Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

The Big Garden Birdwatch

The residents at Melbourn Springs are taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch over the next few weeks. We are making bird feeders and will be recording the avian visitors to our garden to report back to the RSPB site.

We have printed out the RSPB pack ready to catalogue which birds we see. Why don’t you join us in with us on the big garden birdwatch?

The residents at Melbourn Springs would love to see what birds you saw too, email your pictures to our Activities Coordinator Sophie who can share your pictures with the residents on MelbournSprings.Activities@barchester.com

Burns Night Celebrations

Burns Night celebrations at Melbourn Springs included all the traditional dishes and activities. Our residents had a dinner of Scottish smoked salmon salad followed by Neeps and Tatties with Haggis.

Our head chef even created some deep-fried Mars Bars and made Cracken too. Along with some fairy cakes with Monkey whisky buttercream.

We of course did a toast to the Haggis, and to the Lasses. We ended the night with a quiz, some music and dancing.

Vaccination Day At Melbourn Springs

Residents at Melbourn Springs, along with staff, have now had their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination.

Audrey, 93 was one of the first in line for the vaccination knowing that it is the next necessary step towards getting life back to normal again.

General Manager Karen Allen said that it is a huge relief to have the residents vaccinated and that she is looking forward to the second dose coming as well.

Flower Donation For Melbourn Baptist Church

Our resident, Audrey, is a keen florist and previously arranged flowers for her local church.

Our Activities Coordinator arranged for a delivery of fresh cut flowers for our residents who then created beautiful arrangements, with some useful tips provided by Audrey.

The arrangements were then donated to Melbourn Baptist Church.
