Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.
Denise Ashby
Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.
Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.
A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Melbourn Springs Care Home
International Firefighters Day
This International Firefighters Day saw some of the residents at Melbourn Springs venture out on our home Mini Bus to meet the crew at Royston Fire Station.
There were delicious cakes, lovely mugs of tea and so, so many laughs! The ladies were very grateful to spend time with Rob, Lorenzo, Darren and the worker of the group - Rachel!
Thank you so much for your hospitality Royston Fire Station - we look forward to continuing this friendship and welcoming you at Melbourn Springs very soon!
“What a wonderful afternoon I've had!" was Joy's comment as she returned to Melbourn Springs. "I'm so pleased to have met such lovely people!”

Happy Easter
We hope that you have all had an amazing Easter and lovely Bank Holiday. It certainly has been busy at Melbourn Springs!
Our residents enjoyed their very own Easter Egg Hunt, basked in the glorious sunshine and the gentlemen were entertained with a competitive game of Dominoes - with the Easter Bunny of course!
Planters and Garden Games!
Gorgeous weather brought most of our residents into the garden today at Melbourn Springs. And Rob, our Head of Maintenance has even built a brand new game and a raised planter too!
They can both be easily moved anywhere in the home grounds and everyone has had a marvellous day, chatting, planting and encouraging each other too. Well done to Donald for winning the game - have you got any tips for the rest of us?!?
To the Horseracing!
Melbourn Springs goes to the Races!
Our residents donned Hats and fascinators kindly donated by the lovely ladies of Melbourn and Royston and there was lots of fun and laughter choosing a favourite.
Winning horses were picked, bets were placed and they were off! Shouts of support could be heard as the first triumphant horse crossed the line.
We were also treated to Bucks Fizz, Prosecco and canapés made by Phil, our super chef too.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and plans are already being made for our next 'meeting'. Thankfully no real money was exchanged as Babs and Jeanette bet everything they had!!!
Out and about in Cambridge
Our residents thoroughly enjoyed exploring Cambridge this week on our home Minibus - remembering Restaurants, the odd Pub or two and streets that they all knew well.
Doreen was keen to "have a go" on one of the Electric Scooters but was persuaded to wait for the next trip to Cambridge and enjoyed a Kitkat instead!
