Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

National Allotment Week

National Allotment Week was developed as a way of raising awareness of how people can live healthier lives growing their own vegetables and is also a great way for a community to bond too.

Our residents at Melbourn Springs really do love their own Vegetable patch - with our resident Colston along with our Head of Maintenance Rob carefully tending to the home’s Tomato plantation most days. And it sure looks like it is going to be a plentiful harvest this year by the looks of it!

Afternoon Tea Week

Afternoon Tea Week is a celebration of one of the nation’s favourite traditions and took place between 10th -16th August 2020. To mark the special week, we hosted our very own Afternoon High Tea in our stunning Café at Melbourn Springs.

Delicious Sandwiches and Cakes expertly crafted by our Head Chef Paul and Second Chef Annie - our residents had a truly delightful afternoon with lashings of Tea, Victoria Sponge and Strawberry Cream Turnovers also made an appearance at supper too!

Home Blessing by Revd Lizzie Shipp

Our residents and staff at Melbourn Springs were delighted to welcome Revd Lizzie Shipp to bless the home. Originally planned before the home opened it was a really special day for the blessing to actually take place – after the home meet and greet checks had been completed and socially distanced from the garden of course.

After a deluge of rain earlier in the day fortunately there was not a single drop throughout the service. Revd Lizzie proceeded to bless the home Reception, Dining Room, Lounges and the bedrooms of residents who requested a blessing.

Manager - Karen Allen said, “This is truly a special day, a few tears of happiness were shed and this moment will be sure to be remembered for many years to come. Thank you very much Lizzie!”

Smoothies to beat the heat!

Hydration and keeping cool in the heatwave is absolutely paramount right now and to combat this our residents at Melbourn Springs have been enjoying a variety of different tasty, healthy, delicious smoothies expertly crafted by our second Chef Annie.

Some were loved and some tasted like cold Peas! However, not a drop was left and Pear and Apple was definitely the favourite choice by far. Everyone was in fits of laughter when one of our ladies said, "I do prefer Sherry to be honest!" Coming right up Bet!
