Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Melbourn Springs was delighted to support the Melbourn and Meldreth Walking Market by supplying delicious Cupcakes to Kimmi Crosby for the Cake Stall.

Justine, our Hostess delivered the fresh homemade Cupcakes - expertly crafted by our 2nd Chef Annie and we are pleased to have been informed that the Cake Stall raised £584 - with all proceeds going towards the All Saints Melbourn Church fund.

Bonfire Night Firework Display

Melbourn Springs held our very own Firework display as our residents and staff came together to celebrate Bonfire Night.

Earlier in the day residents decorated their own Firework themed biscuits with our Activity Co-ordinators Sophie and Laura. Our Head Chef Paul, also created a tasty supper of Hot Dogs, Burgers, Jacket Potatoes and Chilli as our residents and team enjoyed the first home Firework display.

Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and the Fireworks were, "Absolutely spectacular!"

Melbourn Halloween Hike

Our residents enjoyed a day of Pumpkin Carving to complete our very own window display for the Melbourn Halloween Hike and tucked into a delicious Autumnal lunch - which included some eerie characters donned in costumes kindly donated by the MADS (Melbourn Amateur Dramatic Society)

Melbourn Springs was number 15 on the hike and we had lots of spooky passers-by admiring our window and Pumpkins expertly crafted by our residents. There was lots of laughter too as our residents got stuck into carving earlier in the day - with one chuckling, “Its been years since I’ve had my hand in one of these and I don’t know if I will be doing it again in a hurry either!”

Cupcakes for the Ambulance Staff Charity and EEAST

The Ambulance Staff Charity (ASC) is an amazing charity established 5 years ago to support frontline and support staff with their mental, physical and financial wellbeing. All of us at Melbourn Springs fully appreciate the challenges and stresses Ambulance staff must have faced over recent months and continue to face daily.

As a small token of our appreciation, we wanted to express our gratitude to the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) by sending our Deputy Manager Sarah and Home Services Advisor Dan to deliver delicious Cupcakes - handmade by our Head Chef Paul for Area General Manager, Maya and the team. Needless to say they were met with huge smiles and very much appreciated on a dreary, Friday afternoon.

For more information about the ASC and how you can support them please visit: www.theasc.org.uk

Visiting Suite opens

Melbourn Springs has officially opened its Visiting Suite for our residents, their families and friends to continue to spend time with their loved ones over the upcoming cooler months in a safe environment.

The suite is similar to a living room with comfortable furnishings and heating to create a welcoming and warm atmosphere whilst infection control protocols and a thorough cleaning programme takes place between every visit.

Our visiting suite even has an intercom system fitted so residents can clearly communicate, and engage in conversation, whilst being able to see their friends and family through a Perspex glass divider fitted for safety to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

And who better to open our visiting suite than our home’s very first resident Iris - who upon opening the suite said, “Goodness, how clever! We really are lucky to have this special place to see our family and everything has been thought of – it really is excellent!”
