Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

All Saints Church Zoom Quiz

Our Activities Co-ordinator Laura and Home Services Advisor Dan entered the All Saints Church Evening Zoom Quiz on behalf of Melbourn Springs Care Home.

It was such a fun event and so good to “virtually” see each other whilst making new friends from the community during the breakout rooms between rounds too!

Sadly, Melbourn Springs did not win but came a very honourable 4th out of nearly 25 teams. Kimmi, the Quiz Master is also very kindly forwarding the Quiz so that our residents can take part too. Watch this space for when our home winner is announced!

'Bonne Fete Nationale'

To celebrate the National Day in France on 14th July, troops march down the Champs Elysees during a military parade in front of huge crowds, the President and guests.

Our Head Chef, Paul brought a little bit of the Bastille celebrations to Melbourn Springs with a special themed breakfast complete with his signature handmade Croissants and Pastries all freshly prepared for our residents to enjoy.

Needless to say there wasn't a single Pain au Chocolat left and everyone agreed that they were absolutely delicious!

Postcards of Kindness

Our residents at Melbourn Springs were absolutely delighted to receive our first postcard from the Aldous family in Derbyshire through Postcards of Kindness.

Postcards of Kindness is initiative whereby members of the public sign up and are able to write to residents in Care Homes.

It really is a super scheme and our residents thoroughly enjoyed hearing all about what the Aldous family had been up to and our Activities Co-ordinator Laura helped write a lovely reply about all of the fun we have been having too which we popped in the post today!

Mayor of Royston Rob Inwood shows his support for Melbourn Springs

Royston Mayor, Rob Inwood kindly visited Melbourn Springs to meet some of the home team in the grounds and show his support for how the home has navigated the last few months by remaining completely free of the virus and congratulated the home for being part of a re-testing programme to ensure the home’s community of residents and staff are always kept safe.

The home has changed tremendously since Rob last visited in September 2019 and although not able to view the inside of the home - Rob received a virtual tour and was exceptionally impressed by the home and its Residential and Dementia care communities.

Rob was also able to meet a family who were visiting their relative during a pre-booked garden visit and heard directly from them about how the home was the safest place to be right now and all of the luxurious spa baths that their relative had been enjoying, the tailored activities programme, delicious food and superb care that she has been receiving since moving into Melbourn Springs a month ago.

Thank you for coming to visit us Rob and we look forward to welcoming you again properly at Melbourn Springs once government guidelines change.

Well done Ian from all of the team at Melbourn Springs.

Summer planting fun!

Rain certainly did not stop some of our residents gardening activities as they prepared their very own hanging baskets for our home gardens.

After careful selection and positioning of the flowers we think you'll agree that our residents did a sterling job and their baskets look absolutely splendid with one resident chuckling, "Who needs Hampton Court when you have our gardens at Melbourn Springs?!?"
