Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Great Chishill Christmas Tree Festival

Karen and Dan from Melbourn Springs were delighted to support the Christmas Tree Festival at St Swithuns Church in Great Chishill (after a brief stop at the stunning, famous Windmill of course)

The Church had 25 beautifully decorated trees by various organisations, clubs and societies from the village and the theme was Christmas carols. There was also an extensive music programme over the weekend and the Royston Town Band in particular were truly outstanding.

Best of all was that all proceeds raised from the event went to support the amazing work of St Swithuns Church and Chishill School. Make sure you get this in your diaries for next year - definitely an event not to be missed!

Barley Christmas Market

Our Home Services Advisor Dan was out and about getting into the festive spirit at the annual Christmas Craft Market in the village of Barley. The Market had some beautiful crafts, interesting hand-made gifts - as well as lots of delicious treats too! There was a lovely atmosphere, a vast array of stalls and it was truly a pleasure for Melbourn Springs to be able to support such a fantastic community event fundraising for Barley Church.

Royston Christmas Market

Dan, our Home Services Advisor joined Market Manager - Robert Mills, Royston Town Crier - Graham Pfaff and fellow stall holders at the Royston Christmas Market.

The day was exceptionally busy with Dan on hand to assist with questions about Melbourn Springs and join in the jolly, festive atmosphere.

Royston Market operates every Wednesday and Saturday with trading starting at 8am and finishing at approximately 3.30pm. The Market really is going from strength to strength with lots of delicious food, home-made gifts and is definitely well worth a visit if you get the chance.

Turn on to Christmas

Our General Manager, Karen and Home Services Advisor Dan had a marvellous time supporting the Turn on to Christmas event in Melbourn this year. There was home-made Mince Pies, Mulled Wine, carol singing and even Santa made an appearance too! The annual event hosted by the Hub and Melbourn Fete Commitee is hugely popular with the local community - with lots of fun activities for children and huge amounts of great prizes on the Tombola and Raffle. Karen and Dan cannot wait to share this special event with the residents from Melbourn Springs in December 2020 and join in the festive fun again.

All Saints Autumn Fayre

Our General Manager - Karen and Home Services Advisor - Dan were on hand at the All Saints Melbourn Autumn Fayre to meet the local community and talk about our beautiful new home that will be opening soon. The day was a huge success with stalls, games and delicious refreshments including home made Soup and Cake! John Moore, professional photographer was also available to snap some great shots and Joe Rose - local celebrity singer gave a great performance coinciding with the launch of his new CD. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and a pleasure for Melbourn Springs to be a part of this fantastic fundraiser.

Melbourn Ghostwalk

Our Home Services Advisor Dan became a clown to take part in the Melbourn Amateur Dramatic Society (MADS) annual Melbourn Ghostwalk this year. It was wet and windy evening - but all who came had lots of spooky fun and enjoyed a delicious hot supper at the Melbourn Community Hub afterwards. Best of all - all proceeds collected are going straight back into the community to support the amazing work of the Hub and MADS too!
