Activities at Meadow Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Meadow Park Care Home

Crystal Palace Chronicles

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

Dementia Action Week

Residents at Meadow Park have enjoyed reminiscence sessions as part of our Dementia Action Week. Our homes Therapy Dolls and 60’s Retro Shopping Trolley has helped to bring back fond memories from past days for our resident’s to share with us. It’s been lovely to see our residents chatting about their own personal past experiences with parenthood, shopping trips and 60’s food brands and we can’t wait to do it all again.

,

Woodhorn Museum

Our residents have enjoyed a trip out to Woodhorn Museum this month to celebrate International Museum Day. We enjoyed viewing all the mining memorabilia the museum had to offer and we got a real sense of what life was like back in the 1930’s.

Sensory experience

Our residents have enjoyed a special sensory experience this month with our new Namaste Activity Kits which help to stimulate the 5 senses – hearing, taste, sight, smell and touch. Namaste sessions help to encourage relaxation and connect the individual to the world around them giving them a tailored 1:1 experience within each session.

Senior carer retires after 22-years

After almost 22 years of continuous service at Meadow Park in Bedlington, much-loved Night Shift Senior Carer, Jennifer Martin has decided to retire.  Staff and residents at the home sent Jennifer off in style with champagne and presents to thank her for many years of dedication. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Jennifer and she will be sadly missed.  During her time at Meadow Park, Jennifer has valued member of the night shift team.

Conversations by the Pond

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.
