Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

On Thursday 21st April, staff, residents and visitors enjoyed an afternoon of celebration, followed by a street party to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday and St George's Day.

It was a significant day for everyone at the home, especially as many residents have lived throughout the Queen’s entire reign and remember her coronation vividly.

The entire home was decorated in Union Jacks and staff and residents were dressed in red, white and blue. The afternoon got off to a flying start with musical entertainment from The Simpsons Duo and a royal-themed quiz, which was followed by a street party-style supper.

General Manager, Theresa Shell,  said, “we all had a great time celebrating the Queen’s birthday and we send her our warmest wishes as she enters her 90th year. The party at Marriott House and Lodge was a real community event with lots of friends and family joining us. Our fantastic hospitality team made sure all our guests got the royal treatment!”

Animal Therapy

Animal Therapy

The benefits of animal therapy are well documented. Simple interactions, such as stroking an animal, is beneficial to people of all ages. With this in mind, on Tuesday 5th April 2016, Marriott House & Lodge arranged a special visit from Wild Science. Residents, staff and visitors gathered in the lounge and met an array of animals including, rabbits, guinea pigs, hedgehogs and many other furry creations.

This type of animal therapy is ideal for less-mobile individuals to interact with animals and benefit from a unique experience.

A resident of the home said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon and the fact it was very hands on made it all the more enjoyable. I hope another visit is arranged for the future.”

Activities Coordinator, Nadia Fitzsimons, said “this event was a huge success that not only allowed the residents to have a unique experience with the animals that visited, but also provoked lots of reminiscence and discussion.”

If you were here on 1st April, you may have thought that staff and residents got dressed in the dark; we decided to hold a dress down and asked everyone to wear some outrageous outfits for fun. As you can see, they showed up in some very odd clothing.
