Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Life at The Manor Care Home

Dulcie is almost 105 years old!!

Incredibly, this beautiful lady, Dulcie - a hugely loved resident here at The Manor - is only one month away from her 105th Birthday! Dulcie has never been one for parties or fuss and she would like to keep things that way! Big Parties along with cards from strangers can be a little overwhelming, so plans for a low key celebration are underway. Dulcie is an incredible lady in more ways than one and completely adored by her family, residents and staff here at The Manor.

Parachute Fun!

And its exercise time here at The Manor! Marc, Head of Activities, is always thinking of ways to engage with our residents encompassing therapeutic, healthy and fun themes. He hit the nail on the head with this Parachute Activity. Laughter echoed around the home.

Feeding the Birds and Nature Walks at The Manor

Feeding the birds, (and the odd cheeky Squirrel!) at this time of year, especially in The Manors gardens, is a job that requires all hands on deck!

So we all get to work filling the feeders, we load up and we are off - until the next time of course.

Burns Night Celebrations!

Last night at The Manor, we celebrated the Scottish way, after all, it was Burns’ Night! With traditional Scottish music filling the home, and a specially designed Scottish Menu created by The Manor's Chef, we truly celebrated in style! The menu included a traditional Scottish Broth Soup, (which was a firm favourite with the residents!) A Haggis version of Cottage Pie and a Cock a Leekie Risotto, amongst other things - all delicious.

A Crisp Winters Day at The Manor

It’s an absolutely stunning day here at The Manor in Taunton. What a beautiful setting to enjoy this crisp winters day. Its time to wrap up warm and head outside to watch the wild life in our well established gardens.

A Well Deserved Thank you

Barchester value every team member but it was wonderful today that a family sent flowers and Prosecco to our receptionist Tina for always having a smile at reception and being supportive with all the additional work and support she gives not only for residents and there family members but also the staff. Well done Tina a great job and rightfully recognized not only by the home but the individuals and families we care for and keep safe.
