Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Birthday Celebrations

We had lots of fun celebrating a residents' birthday here at The Manor.

World Bee Day

We started off the day by making honey cake, made with locally sourced honey, and ended the day with a virtual bee tour that explained the importance of bees for our environment.

Falafel Tasting

This is from our Friday tasting afternoons; this week, we had our Mediterranean Day, which brought some much-needed sunshine to the end of our week following the week of rain.

Garden Entertainment returns to The Manor

There were smiles all round at The Manor care home in Bishops Hull, Taunton as live entertainers were allowed to perform in the garden once again. Damien Cheung performed resident’s favourite songs and demonstrated his amazing guitar ability to staff and residents who really enjoyed the show.

Just like the rest of the country, Government guidelines for care homes are starting to relax and performers can now entertain residents again safely in outdoor spaces.

Alex Ross, General Manager at The Manor commented: “It is great to be able to open up our gardens again and have some live entertainment for our residents.  We have really missed being able to welcome performers into our home during lockdown, although we’ve had lots of virtual concerts, quizzes and talks.  It’s lovely to be able to host events in the garden again now that lockdown is easing and the weather is getting warmer.”

Working within our Community

This Saturday we were joined by the Bishops Hull Hub to partake in their 100 Club prize draw. Here at The Manor we are always so thrilled to join hands with our local community and support the work they do. The 100 Club funds community enhancements within the surrounding neighbourhood and we couldn’t be prouder to support their work.

St Georges Day Celebrations

With bunting of flags, and talk of dragons and roses, The Manor in Taunton, celebrated St. George’s Day on Friday.  A talk on the history of St. George started the celebrations where we learned that St George was a soldier in the Roman army who slayed a dragon and saved a princess.  The anniversary of St. George’s death is celebrated as England’s national day and we were only to keen to enjoy festivities in the name of our patron saint.
