Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Dulcie - 104 years young

The residents and staff wanted to make Dulcie’s 104th birthday extra special, after all its not every day you are 104. The team  targeted themselves with trying to get Dulcie 104 birthday wishes sent to her via birthday cards.

Our Home Manager, Brighton sent a message out for assistance via our Facebook page in the hope that friends, family and colleagues at Barchester Healthcare would send a card to Dulcie at The Manor Care Home.

We are so pleased to say that thanks to our local community we have had a fabulous response and the cards are pouring in.  So far, Dulcies story has been on BBC radio, in the press and Dulcie has even received a special birthday message from Lorraine Kelly who asked what Dulcie’s secret was.

Valentines Day

We have been spreading the love throughout The Manor Care Home by reminiscing of the great loves in our lives, past and present.  Today,  our residents wrote messages to their loved ones on specially bought  tee shirts and then wore them with pride.  We have heard some amazing love stories today

Chinese New Year - The Year of the OX

Everyone at The Manor really enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. The Year of the Ox.   The residents and Staff had great fun making a Chinese dragon display out of paper cupcake cases and then of course we topped the afternoon off with a incredibly tasty Chinese meal at supper.  Great fun for all involved.

Burns Night

Here at The Manor, we spent the morning making a traditional Scottish sweet treat tablet which was just delicious.  Closely followed by the afternoon's activities where  we watched a virtual burns night concert filled with well-known Scottish songs and the odd dance.  A good time was had by all.

Our Staff receive their vaccines

Our Staff were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at Musgrove Park Hospital, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Brighton Nyagoma said “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”
