Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Life at The Manor Care Home

Sporting Memories Foundation

Here at The Manor our team have recently joined a meeting with Sporting Memories Foundation to under more about how the scheme can benefit our residents.

Sporting Memories Foundation for 10 years have been using the power of remembering and talking about sport – along with physical exercise – to tackle dementia, depression and loneliness. They are dedicated to bringing together older adults.

Sporting Memories offer group or 1-2-1 based activities for our residents to enjoy either with other residents or by involving family and friends.

There are over 120 Sporting Memories Clubs across Scotland, Wales and England. The supportive, welcoming and structured sessions they offer are proven to help build cognitive resilience for those living with dementia. Mental and physical well-being increases too.

We look forward to working in partnership with Sporting Memories Foundation.

Barchester Christmas Quiz

Barchester’s The Manor care home, in Taunton, got into the Christmas spirit by joining a virtual afternoon of festivities along with the staff and residents at over seventy Barchester care homes across the south of England, Jersey and the Isle of Wight.

The Manor’s staff and residents pulled out all the stops by dressing up in their glittery Christmas best to link up with all the other care homes in the south of the country for a whole host of different fun activities culminating in the Barchester Big Quiz of the Year.  When they weren’t quizzing, residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s chef, Steve.

General Manager, Robert, said: “We’ve all had a challenging year so we wanted to ensure the Christmas celebrations for our residents and staff were an extra special treat.  ‘Meeting up’ with the other homes virtually has given them all such a boost.  We’ve all had so much fun letting our hair down, everyone really enjoyed the afternoon.”

Pet Therapy

It's a Tuesday which means we have an extra special visitor coming to see us. This is Bracken who is our therapy dog here at The Manor Care Home in Taunton.

Bracken is a Labrador cross who found himself in need of a rescue home some years ago, fortunately he found his forever home with one of our dedicated volunteers. Bracken has been visiting the residents at our home for the last two years and everyone involved thoroughly enjoys the experience.

Annual Christmas Carol Service

Residents here at the manor had a lovely time hosting our annual Carol service with our fantastic local vicar Phil Hughes from St Peter and St Paul, Bishops Hull, We all enjoyed singing our favorite carols and enjoyed a warm mulled wine afterwards. We would like to give another thank you to Phil for all he has done for us this year and wish him and his family a very Merry Christmas.

Homemade Christmas Wreath

Here at The Manor our resident enjoyed there creative side yesterday putting together a homemade arts and crafts wreath which had been kindly gifted from the fantastic company Creative Mojo Mid Devon and West Somerset.

We look forward to working in partnership in 2022.

Christmas Cake!

Staff and residents at Barchester’s The Manor care home, in Taunton, have been decking the halls, getting out the tinsel and unravelling the fairy lights, ready for a whole host of Christmas celebrations.

Today, Activities Co-Ordinator, Marc and residents have spent the day decorating the Christmas Cake with icing after weeks of feeding the sponge with alcohol in preparation.

General Manager, Damon said: “Christmas is such a magical time and our residents love nothing better than baking for one another. As a team we support the residents from preparation, to baking and finally decorating the cake. I am sure the residents will love sharing the cake round on Christmas Day!"
