Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

A Right Royal Wedding

A Right Royal Wedding

Everyone at Lucerne House had a fantastic time at our Royal Wedding Party Tea Party this month. We all got together in our Memory Lane community to indulge in a whole host of treats and snacks. The cake we made during our baking group was well-received too. A special thank you goes out to Rosemary Ellis, who arranged for a for a cake bearing an image of Harry & Megan to be made.

Party Preparations

Party Preparations

Residents have been helping to prepare for our Royal Wedding Tea Party. We all liked the look of the patriotic cake that was made with blueberries and strawberries.

BBQ at Lucerne

BBQ at Lucerne

A big thank you to everyone who made it to our BBQ on Tuesday 8th May. There was a real buzz of joy and community in the air, with plenty of good food to go around. It was great to reunite with old friends of the home and also to welcome some new ones. We are hoping they will join us again in the future.

Another BBQ will be arranged when the sunny weather returns, so keep a look out on our upcoming events in the days, weeks and months to come.

May the 4th Be with You

May the 4th Be with You

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away the residents at Lucerne assembled to face the First Order, lead by Supreme Leader Snoke. May 4th marks Star Wars Day, and everyone enjoyed marking the occasion by watching the latest installment of the saga in our Alphinbrook lounge/cinema. The smell of popcorn added to the feeling of being at the movies and everyone said they had a good time.

Baking Bread

Baking Bread

Residents got together to bake some bread for lunchtime. We had a great time and especially enjoyed eating it with the homemade soup provided by our kitchen team. We look forward to baking more bread in the coming weeks.

If you would like to assist us or try our baked goods, then please do pop in. You can also join us for our Don’t Dine Alone programme, which is on the third Wednesday of every month.

Active Minds

Active Minds

At Lucerne House, we love to keep as active as possible, be that through exercise events, yoga groups, walks in the village or anything else we can think of.

As well as being physically active, we also like to exercise our minds, and one really positive way of doing that has been at our Scrabble groups. It allows us to challenge our problem solving and spelling and provides us with intellectual and social stimulation.

We run our Scrabble groups regularly, so if you are up to the challenge or would like to make new friends, then we would love to welcome you into our home.
