Activities at Lucerne House Care Home
At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.
We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.
In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.
My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Life at Lucerne House Care Home
Christmas Cards
We were all pleasantly surprised to receive lots of Christmas cards from Red Hills Primary School, which were delivered to us on Friday 21st December. The cards have a personal note in each one from one of the pupils that details what Christmas means to them personally. The designs are fantastic and are now on full display in our reception area.
Creative Christmas
A big thank you to Anne Bromwell for joining us at Lucerne House during the festive period. Anne is a qualified, freelance and experienced florist providing flowers for all occasions. Anne was kind enough to donate and create some fantastic centrepieces for our tables, which will be on display over Christmas.
It was a great afternoon and Anne kept us all enthralled by creating something brilliant and beautiful right before our eyes. Her display was a great talking point and has really inspired us for our next flower arranging session. We hope to see Anne again in the spring time, so watch this section!

Christmas Jumper Day
Everyone had a great time celebrating Christmas Jumper Day at Lucerne House. Residents, relatives and staff all got into the spirit of things by donning their best festive attire to mark the occasion.
In the afternoon, we hosted a party and were joined by the fantastic Filipino Exeter Choir, who performed a Christmas nativity carol service for us all to and enjoy. The choir was made up of friends and also staff who work with us at the home. Everyone was really excited to see them back with us and were not disappointed. The harmonies, choice of songs and brilliant delivery really made for an excellent afternoon of entertainment, and also shared a wonderful message about what Christmas really means. We thank them all for joining us and hope to see them in the New Year.
After the party and Choir had finished, it was judging time, as we crowned our winner of our Christmas jumper competition. It was a very close decision, with so many fantastic jumpers and designs on display, but there could only be one winner. Congratulations to Care Assistant, Jasmine Perez, for her entry with a very apt slogan, 'Christmas Calories Don’t Count'. We hope you enjoy your prize!

Elf Day
A big thank you to everyone who joined in with Elf Day at Lucerne House. There was a wonderful buzz of festive cheer in the air, as residents, relatives and staff swapped their usual attire to dress as elfs in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The day was filled with lots to do; in the morning, residents were able to play 'pin the face on the elf' and a snowman game. The afternoon saw everyone congregate in our Memory Lane community for mince pies and clotted cream, festive music and a present wrapping competition.
Everyone has said what a fantastic day it was and how wonderful everyone looked in their costumes.
Preparing for Christmas
Everyone at Lucerne House had a great time this past week, as we started to get ready for Christmas. Residents, relatives and staff all congregated in our Memory Lane community to make some paper chains. This was an excellent way to promote creative stimulation and everyone had a lot of fun. 15 Years at Barchester
Everyone at Lucerne House would like to congratulate Alison Suttil, Housekeeper, on 15 years of service with Barchester. Alison was presented with her award by Senior General Manager, John Bayliss.
