Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Ice Cream in the Sun

On Wednesday 18th April, residents, relatives and staff all assembled in our garden to enjoy the fantastic weather. Everyone was able to indulge in some ice cream, Pimm's and lemonade or shandy. We all had a great time and look forward to seeing more sunny weather in the coming days, weeks and months. If you would like to join us, then do pop in

Harp Performance

Harp Performance

At Lucerne House, we have many professional friends who will join us regularly to entertain residents. One such friend is Luc Walpot, who plays the harp. Luc has been visiting us for a few years now and has been providing excellent performances that are relaxing, stimulating and very enjoyable.

Residents and loved ones alike always look forward to him coming and he has proved to be one of our most popular entertainers to date.

Animals at Lucerne

At Lucerne House, we believe that we have a fantastic activities programme. Our staple events, such as tea parties, quizzes, music groups and cooking sessions are continuing to be as popular as ever.

We have also been able to enjoy an assortment of animals that have visited us over the past few weeks and months. On Wednesday 21st March, we were once again joined by Rich Dawkins, along with his small creatures and birds from New Heights Falconry for an afternoon display.

We were able to pet and stroke the animals and also learned a great deal about their ways of life. Rich and co. will be with us again in July, so if you would like to get up close and personal with the birds of prey or attend any other of our events each week, then don’t hesitate to stop by and join us at Lucerne house.

Movie Afternoon

Movie Afternoon

An activity that has certainly proved popular at Lucerne House is our movie afternoons. With the smell of fresh popcorn in the air, everyone enjoyed watching 'Murder on the Orient Express'. It was a great way to spend an afternoon and everyone is looking forward to our next movie screening.

Cooking up a Storm

Cooking up a Storm

Residents have been putting their cooking abilities to the test here at Lucerne House in our cooking groups. Over the past few weeks, residents have been making various dishes, with a favourite being chicken curry with garlic bread.

Activities Coordinator, Jan Taylor, even donned her chef’s hat to lead the most recent group before the weekly quiz night. Everyone here at Lucerne House looks forward to cooking groups, as they enable us to be creative with food and to develop our cooking skills and knowledge.
