Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Llama Friends

Llama Friends

This past month, we were delighted to welcome back our llama friends, Olly and Golly. The pair met with many of our residents, relatives, friends and staff who all remarked how wonderful and majestic these animals were.

We hope to see them again soon, so do look out for their next visit on our upcoming monthly events, and feel free to pop in and join us. Everyone is welcome!

Easter Egg Hunt

At Lucerne House, we take great pride in being involved with our community, and are always looking for ways to engage with them. Our most recent event was an Easter egg hunt in conjunction with St Michael’s Church, which is situated in our village.

The hunt started at Lucerne House, where everyone received a small egg, goodie bag and a set of clues to hunt down letters scattered around the village at local landmarks, including our home the doctor's surgery, local shops and otherplaces of interest. These letters made up a word related to Easter.

Everyone here had a great time meeting the competitors and wishing them luck on their hunt. The hunt ended at the church, where 3rd, 2nd and 1st place prizes were handed out. Lucerne were happy to donate these prizes and hope the winners along with all other participants had a great time and a great Easter.

If you would like to know more about our events, then do keep a look out on our website for more events in the coming months or pop in and join us for some of our regular events coming up in May.

Fun in the Sun

Fun in the Sun

We have been having great fun with the children and parents from the Chattertots group that visit us regularly. During a recent session, the children were all playing outside and making the most of the lovely weather. They were even expressing their creative sides with some chalk drawings on our patio.

The group will continue to take place each week on a Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., so if you fancy joining us, please do pop in.

Sunday School

Sunday School

At Lucerne House we really enjoy making new friends and sharing new experiences. We have recently made a great connection with the Sunday school which is organised and run by Lucy Williams, Children and families lead worker for Alphington community. We have been cooking together and most recently we have been painting and building bird feeders. Our residents have really enjoyed working with the parents and children who have visited and we look forward to many more events.

Our sessions with the Sunday school will be running on the third Sunday of each month so if you would like to join us pop in or contact Lucy Williams on 07881623947 to discuss enrolling in the Sunday school.

Chattertots

Chattertots

We are very pleased to be hosting an additional 'Chattertots' session here at Lucerne House. Chattertots is a parent and toddler session run through the church that gives parents and children a space to socialise and take part in fun activities.

The group, organised by Lucy Williams, will be joining us every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. We have enjoyed singalongs, puzzles and games and meeting the children and parents from the community.

Cooking Group

Residents at Lucerne House have been putting their culinary skills to the test. We are always looking at ways to promote independence, creativity, sensory stimulation and social inclusion, and cooking has proved to be a great way of enabling this.

Residents met and discussed what they would like to prepare and all agreed on beef stew with dumplings. Everyone helped with the preparation, from peeling and chopping the vegetables to mixing the suet dough for the dumplings. This dish was then served to those on our Alphinbrook unit in place of our regular menu. Everyone commented on how delicious it was and what a great job everyone had done.

Our cooking groups are going to become more regular as the weeks and months continue. If you fancy joining us, then please feel free to give us a call on 01392 422905 and pop in.
