Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

That's Amore

Llys-Y-Tywysog residents celebrated their own Italian day.  It was a day of all things Italian with a delicious Italian meal, our own gondolier to pilot our gondola and Italian weather! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink along with having a laugh with cut outs of Italian themes. It was wonderful to be able to bring Italy to the residents.

Concert from The Not Forgotten Charity

This week Llys-Y-Tywysog had the privilege of a concert from The Not Forgotten Charity. Thank you Annie Riley, Lloyd Ellery and Andante, the multi-instrument duo whose performances got feet tapping, hands jiving, residents and staff dancing along with singing along to some favourite songs. Music is at the heart of The Not Forgotten and the care home concerts for veterans around the country bring joy to all. This amazing team have performed 10 concerts across England and Wales this week, we thank them so much for a wonderful afternoon. This was a memorable occasion bringing lots of smiles and it was lovely to Lola and John having a cwtch while singing along.

Animal Therapy Benefits Residents

Llys-Y-Tywysog welcomed Cariad back and it was an absolute delight. What a fabulous week with Monty the miniature Shetland pony and Freya the donkey. It was incredible that Monty travelled in our lift and happily strolled into resident's rooms. Animal therapy builds on pre-existing human-animal bonds. The benefits are both physical and emotional including; reducing blood pressure, producing endorphins and therefore a feeling of wellbeing along with increasing social interactions. Thank you so much to Shelia who has a small holding locally from bringing Monty and Freya to our party and to Sarah who is now bringing Cariad in every week. Llys-Y-Tywysog's residents very much confirm the benefits of animal therapy.

Summer Hawaiian Beach Party

Today was an amazing day! The team at Barchester Llys-Y-Tywysog pulled out all the stops for their summer Hawaiian Beach Party and the residents loved every second. From the decorations, the food and drink through to the ukulele band the atmosphere was fantastic. There were so many hi-lights, everyone loved building sand castles and dipping their feet in the paddling pool all whilst drinking mocktails! Then there were some very special guests, it really was a wonderful day.
