Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and Birds

We had some very special visitors to Llys-Y-Tywysog and they really did bring smiles all round.  We would like to thank Shelia for bringing in her therapy animals, the most adorable guinea pigs, rabbits and birds stole our hearts.  They were intuitive, gentle and each with their own character.  The power of animals offering therapeutic benefit has been widely researched with physical benefits such as lowering blood pressure and the improvement in mental health is extensive.  It really was a memorable afternoon.  We also have had some good news, Llys-Y-Tywysog has been on a waiting list for a PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog and we are delighted that we will be receiving regular visits from a PAT dog.

Thank you Pengelli Primary School

Llys-Y-Tywysog have been very touched by the beautiful pictures given to the home from the children at the local school Pengelli Primary over the past year. We wanted to end the school year by thanking them with some sweet treats, delivered in person by residents Kitty and Des along with the activities team. It is fair to say the delivery went down well! We wish all the staff and children an enjoyable summer break and thank you again for bringing a smile to our residents and staff.

Entertainment in the Sun and Fine Dining

What a wonderful day, entertainment in the sunshine followed by a fine dining evening. Residents enjoyed a variety of songs from Robbie Lee, relaxing in the sun with a glass of wine. Our chef Andy created another special menu for our monthly fine dining event. The food was delicious and everyone enjoys the whole experience, thank you to Chloe for serving and Andy and his team for the thought that goes into these events.
