Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Llys-Y-Tywysog residents built their own gingerbread houses!

Decorating each piece to then bring together as the finished creation, they really did look good enough to eat!

Brown paper packages tied up with string....

The Llys-Y-Tywysog activities team dropped off the gift boxes to Age Cymru in Llanelli. This wonderful project will deliver the parcels to older people in the community in time for Christmas. Each box contains edible treats, smellies and gifts, thank you so much for the kind donations from Llys-Y-Tywysog families and staff. Emily our work experience student from Gower College in Swansea joined us. Emily is studying social care and we talked about how important the community is to our residents. We had planned to take our resident ambassadors along, but it really was too cold. Joanne from Age Cymru is photographed with the team and took time to explain all the services and projects the charity offers particularly to those living alone. Age Cymru also offer a number of advisory services, the work of this charity is invaluable.

Celebrating Barchester's 30 Years of Care with a Mascaraed Ball

Llys-Y-Tywysog residents and staff celebrated Barchester’s 30 years of care in style with a Mascaraed Ball. The home was beautifully decorated with a special menu to mark the occasion. The team and residents looked great in their masks and after the delicious meal enjoyed entertainment from The Mark Jermin Stage School whose singers were amazing. We were delighted so many family and friends could join us.

Thank you so much to the team here at Llys-Y-Tywysog who really do go the extra mile to made these events so successful.

Happy 99th Birthday Gwynfa

Happy 99th Birthday Gwynfa, as always the Llys-Y-Tywysog made it a special celebration inlcuding a personnalised cake.

Gwynfa was born the same year Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon married Prince Albert Duke of York, who of course became King George VI, insulin became widely used for the treatment of diabetes, the BBC made it's first broadcast and Stanley Baldwin becomes Prime Minister.

Fun Trip to Asda!

Llys-Y-Tywysog residents had such fun on a trip to Asda! Doreen purchased a lovely new cardigan. Jean some hair scrunchies and Des a paper and sweet treats all with a giggle as we went round. It was great to see all the Christmas goodies in store and we chatted about all our favourite foods at Christmas.
