Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Making Edith's Wish Come True

Edith, 98, wished on our Wishing Washing Line to return back to her home town of Porthcawl and we made her wish come true!

Edith had a wonderful time reminiscing about the 40 years that she had lived there.

Fish and chips followed by ice cream and a walk along the promenade chatting with everyone that we meet along the way .

We managed a little trip to visit Edith’s home, where as luck would have it, Edith’s old neighbours of 20 years were there to meet her .

Edith’s smile does really say it all

At Llys Y Tywysog we make wishes come true.

Kitty’s wish came true!

Kitty Adams who is 98, made a wish on our Wishing Washing Line and we all made it come true today we visited Penyrheol Leisure Centre accompanied by her son Neil Adams and carer Anthony .

Kitty remembers swimming from a young age and was an avid swimmer up until 30 years ago.

Kitty said "the minute I entered the water I felt renewed and half my age again. All my memories came flooding back to my childhood when I used to go swimming in our local outdoor pool next to my grandmothers house which cost one penny to go in for the day".

Kitty would like to thank the staff at the leisure centre for welcoming her today. They told Kitty she was the oldest swimmer they have had in the pool and it was their pleasure and truly heart warming as you can all agree.
