Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Good Friday service at local Chapel

On Good Friday we had 20 residents and relatives from Llys attend the Good Friday church service at our local, Mt. Pleasant Church. As you may already know, the ministers provide an evening of Christian fellowship every Wednesday at 6pm, and a church service every Sunday at 2pm at Llys-Y-Tywysog. Additionally, we bring our residents to the coffee mornings held at the church fortnightly on Fridays. We are so grateful for this community connection

Baking with Chef Andy

Baking and cake decorating is a loved activity at Llys. Usually done once a month, the residents really enjoy guidance from our Head Chef, Andy, who loves to get involved and help our residents make delicious treats to be enjoyed by all on the afternoon tea trolley!

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

Or in English, Happy St. David’s Day! At Llys we started the day with a traditional welsh breakfast, complete with cockles and laverbread! The welsh are famous for music, so we had a day full of it! The morning we had musical entertainment from saxophonist Mick Luck, followed by welsh themed lunch menu and then an afternoon of more music with Goldies Cymru that led a welsh language sing-a-long session! Lechyd Da!

Lunch and a Stroll on The Mumbles

Llys-Y-Tywysog residents had a fabulous trip out to the Mumbles today with lunch at Verdis Cafe of toasties and coffee, thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Paula and Sarah accompanied residents strolling along the seafront and sitting taking in the sea air.  A great road trip, great company and great food.

Resident Cousins Birthday Celebrations

Mair celebrated her birthday at Llys-Y-Tywysog, the hospitality team made a beautiful cake which was enjoyed by all the residents for afternoon tea. What made the day all the more special was Mair enjoying lunch with her cousin Rita who is also a Llys-Y-Tywysog resident. These two ladies get on so well, we loved this photo.
