Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Burns Night Celebrations

It was all things Scottish in Wales as Llys-Y-Tywysog residents had a wonderful time celebrating Burns Night.  It was an action packed day with Scottish crafts, whiskey tasting, a Scottish quiz and a very tasty Scottish lunch.  Andy our head chef put together a traditional menu, beautifully presented.  To start there was cock-a-leekie soup, slow cooked braised beef as the main with cranachan for dessert.  We then settled down to watch the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Burns Night Concert.

Happy Birthday Doreen!

This month we celebrated Doreen’s 88th Birthday. Doreen started her day opening cards and presents with family and staff, followed by a morning of being pampered with nails and beauty. Oo La La!
In the afternoon our residents came together to celebrate with Doreen with a Birthday Tea Party, cake, tea, coffee and lots of laughter. It was a beautiful day that Doreen really enjoyed. Penblwydd Hapus i ti!

Christmas Party!

Our residents had a fantastic Christmas Party at Llys-Y-Tywysog! Thank you to our Chef, Andy, and our Kitchen Assistants for creating an amazing Christmas Buffet spread. Christmas Crackers and party hats were abundant. Our residents then enjoyed and amazing Christmas show with a glass of sherry or beer from our treasured entertainer Chris Caine. Chris performed on the West End for 10 years and all residents commented on what a fantastic singer he is! The afternoon was then followed by paper snowflake crafts, a festive themed quiz and a carols sing-a-long with our incredible resident pianist Joan West. A very merry Christmas was had by all!

World's Biggest Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who donated and came along to the Macmillan Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday. Everyone was spoilt for choice, it was also wonderful to have the support of local businesses The Cwtch, OneSixty and The Happy Little Cake Company who kindly donated doughnuts and cakes. We were so pleased to be able to support Macmillan Cancer Support.

A Glass of Wine at the Boat Club

Llys-Y-Tywysog is located in such a stunning part of South Wales we really are spoilt for choice on where to visit. Our latest trip was a visit to River View at Loughor Boating Club, it was so tranquil with some of our ladies sat having a glass of wine in this wonderful location. Enjoying the last of the summer sun, everyone agreed we couldn't have picked a better location.
