Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Baking is back

After a break since the new year from the activity, residents voiced at our last residents meeting that they were ready to get stuck back in! Good news for all, who doesn't like a freshly baked treat?! Residents enjoyed rolling and cutting some shortbread biscuits for all to enjoy at the 3pm tea trolley.

Llys-Y-Tywysog is in full bloom!

Inspired by the Chelsea Flower Show this week, our residents have been making their own floral display - just look at their creations! Absolutely beautiful! So the home is currently dressed left, right and centre with these gorgeous flowers. Working with your hands, smelling the perfumes and seeing the beauty of your work makes flower arranging a great all round sensory experience. Our residents really enjoyed

Trip to Llanelli Wetland Centre

We took our residents to the wetland centre where we saw all kinds of funky looking birds... Even Flamingos! Our residents were blown away to see so many species of bird in one place! And the wetland centre is so big, we only saw a fraction of everything that is there! We will definitely be making regular trips here throughout the summer. Not to mention the cafe is gorgeous with amazing views (and coffee) the trip was a huge success and our residents had an amazing time

Painting Pottery

What a lovely, relaxing afternoon we had at Llys-Y-Tywysog with Jayne from The Pottery Project. Jayne had returned with our fired ornaments made by our residents for our Fairy Garden we are hoping to create this summer! The fired ornaments were ready for painting and our residents had a lovely relaxed time, chatting around the table and painting their chosen piece. Art therapy like painting has been proven to improve mental health and boost mood as it naturally decreases stress, whilst also improving dexterity. Jayne is one of our regulars at Llys-Y-Tywysog who visits every month, we look forward to seeing her again in 4 weeks.

Spring Fete

Thank you so much everyone who attended our Fete today! The event was a huge success, it was a beautiful day with beautiful weather, we couldn't have asked for more! So amazingly lovely to see our residents and the community coming together once again.
