Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

I Name That Tune in..........

It was fantastic to see so many residents at our music quiz.  At our latest resident's meeting there were requests for more quizzes so the team have been working on some new ideas.

Family Trees

Family is always in all our hearts and Sarah been creating family trees for our residents. This thoughtful idea has been bought to reality by placing family members on the tree in resident rooms.  It is a wonderful project, which has bought back memories and also is a great conversation opener for all.  Next time for example a new nurse visits they could look at the tree and chat to the resident about their family.  It will be exciting when we can add new arrivals as well.

Trip to Pontarddulais Garden Centre

We took a group of Llys-Y-Tywysog residents to Pontarddulais Garden Centre.  Residents strolled around looking at the amazing selection of plants, had a good look at the shop and enjoyed tea and coffee in the cafe.  The photos look like we are in the Mediterranean with the palm trees!

Willow's Charm

For the latest visit from our therapy dogs we had the pleasure of Willow and she really did make our residents laugh. Sarah kindly took Willow to visit residents in their rooms as well as to a group in the main lounge. We took the opportunity to give a small thank you gift to both Sarah and her amazing dogs.
