Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Mondays are for Music!

Yesterday we had a piano sing-a-long led by Stephanie Benavente - Performer, all residents enjoyed singing in chorus and we also had solos from Des and Angela! It was a lovely morning of music making, a fantastic mood lifter which is always welcome on a Monday!

Sing-a-long with Goldies Cymru

This morning we had Cheryl from Goldies Cymru lead a sing-a-long session with our residents, which they all really enjoyed! Like exercise, music has been proven to increase oxytocin and serotonin levels in the brain, both of which are instant mood boosters! So we've started the week with a bang (a good bang), and it's always heart-warming to hear the residents talking amongst themselves over lunch about how much they enjoyed the session. We will be seeing Cheryl again in September and we cannot wait!

Happy Birthday!

Our resident ambassador celebrated her 98th Birthday today! Here are some photos of our Afternoon Tea Party. Thank You Keith for leading a game with a prize of a box of chocolates, and low and behold - Kitty won the game and won the box of chocolates! But kindly shared them with all her friends. After we were full of tea and cake, we had some quizzes to finish off the day. Kitty - "I have had such a lovely day, thank you everyone for all your good work, I feel so blessed"

Baking is back

After a break since the new year from the activity, residents voiced at our last residents meeting that they were ready to get stuck back in! Good news for all, who doesn't like a freshly baked treat?! Residents enjoyed rolling and cutting some shortbread biscuits for all to enjoy at the 3pm tea trolley.
