Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Wear it Pink Day

Wear it Pink Day

Kingfisher Lodge joined in with celebrating Wear it Pink Day on Friday 23rd October, along with hundreds of thousands of other people across the UK, and raised £35.00 for charity with our raffle – a big basket full of pink goodies.

Wear it Pink is a Breast Cancer awareness campaign, which has so far raised £27 million for breast cancer since the campaign started in 2002. Schools, businesses and families get together to eat, wear and make something pink in order to raise money to raise awareness for breast cancer.

The residents tucked into their favourite pink treats made by the home’s activity team with help from residents! Everyone in the home, including the carers, all added something pink to their outfits to celebrate the day.

Fighting Against Dementia

Fighting Against Dementia

Kingfisher Lodge recently presented Keynsham and Saltford's Dementia Action Alliance with a cheque for £75.50.

We regularly join in the 'Singing for the Mind' group, which is held at St Dunstans Church Hall on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m.

Kingfisher Lodge residents really love these meetings, where they can enjoy a cup of tea, a cake and chat to people.

Employee of the Month - October

Employee of the Month - October

Residents and staff members at Kingfisher Lodge applauded as Administrator, Fiona Mason, was named as October's Employee of the Month for going above and beyond her responsibilities.

Fiona was nominated for residents, colleagues and loved ones, who felt that she really deserved extra recognition for the amazing work she does everyday.

Fiona was congratulated by General Manager, Lesley Cole, for the achievement and was presented with a £25 voucher as a special thank you.

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

We had lots of fun celebrating 25 years of Barchester Healthcare on Saturday 14th October. We got into the spirit of the celebrations with a Tie and Tiara Tea dance, live entertainment and an afternoon tea, of scones and cucumber sandwiches, which were enjoyed by residents, staff and visitors alike.

The residents, visitors and staff were presented with tiaras to wear to bring a bit of sparkle to the celebrations, and staff went all out, in their glitzy costumes.

General Manager at Kingfisher Lodge said: “This has been a huge amount of fun and our Tie and Tiara Tea Dance was a great way to bring people together in celebration. I want to thank everyone who helped make the day amazing.”

A resident at the home said: “It was really nice seeing everyone come together to celebrate such a landmark anniversary. The tea dance  was so much fun and it was lovely watching residents and staff dancing and singing along with the entertainment.”

Cheese & Wine Afternoon

We had a great time at our monthly cheese and wine afternoon.

The residents and families came together, for a chat, and live entertainment, which was followed by a quiz or a game of bingo. Everyone is encouraged to come along and enjoy the afternoon.

One resident said ”this is one of my favourite days of the month,  it’s a lovely afternoon and it’s nice to have fun and a couple of glasses of sherry”.

Our next wine and cheese afternoon is on Tuesday 7th November 2.30 pm, and anyone from the local community is welcome to come along and join in. Just give us a call and let us know that you would like to attend!

Kingfisher has a 'latte' fun!

Kingfisher Lodge held a charity coffee morning on 29th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It was a big success – we managed to raise just over £75.00 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!
