Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Quiz Night

Quiz Night

Residents and staff at Henford House put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ with a charity quiz night to raise money for Dorothy House. The evening was made up of 3 general knowledge rounds with a buffet in between. The night was a big success, and the winning team (above) received a bottle of wine.

St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff celebrated all things Irish during our St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

In honour of the patron saint of Ireland, staff, residents and guests marked the day by giving the celebrations a gourmet twist. Our Head Chef prepared a traditional lunch of Irish stew, steak and Guinness pie and Guinness sponge with Irish cream.

Irish music was enjoyed in the dining room over lunch and a pint of Guinness or Irish Whisky. Members of the British Legion also came along to celebrate the day with residents.

Ronnie the Horse

Henford House was full of animal mischief when resident Jean Fozard-Harding’s granddaughter, Kim, visited with her horse. Residents were pleasantly surprised to see Kim and her beautiful horse Ronnie in the garden.

Red Nose Day

Staff and residents at Henford House took part in a cake sale to raise money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on 15th March. There was a competition to guess comedian Katherine Ryan’s favourite flavour cupcake, which was won by Amanda Wood, a member of staff. Staff members and relatives could also wear red and pay £1 to raise money for the charity. Residents, their relatives and staff at Henford House were all very supportive and were there to help with the fundraising throughout the day.

Who let the dogs out?

Staff and residents at Henford House enjoyed an afternoon of canine capers on Thursday 7th March, when we hosted our annual dog show.

Categories ranged from 'Waggiest Tail' to 'Most Obedient', and even included 'Looks Most Like Their Owner'. Entry was free for all who came to cheer on the furry competitors, who were up for champion prizes, such as dog toys, blankets and plenty of treats.

All categories were judged by Lara and Taylor from Charismatic Pets, Warminster’s local animal behaviour and training specialists, who also gave an obedience display and held a question and answer session for anyone looking for tips on how to best support their dog.

Valentine's Day

Henford House was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Staff, residents and guests celebrated the day of love with roses for all the ladies handed out by Johnathan, one of our volunteers. Residents enjoyed a traditional roast lunch followed by musical entertainment with Sophie, who played love songs on the piano.
