Activities at Henford House Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.
Debbie Phillips
I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Life at Henford House Care Home
Music Therapy
Once a fortnight, Julie comes to Henford House to host a music therapy session for residents.
Julie does group work in the lounge and one-to-one sessions, either in the residents' rooms or in the lounge by the piano.
Music works for most people, even residents who do not engage with word games or physical activities. Playing or listening to music suits everybody’s needs.
August Open Day
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Henford House to enjoy an open day that was held at the home on 11th July.
Henford House hosted a variety of activities throughout the day. Vintage cars, supplied by John Pomeroy, were on display in the car park for residents and visitors to enjoy.
After lunch, there was country and western-themed live entertainment by Vanessa, who has been to Henford House on numerous occasions.
A BBQ was planned, with Vanessa entertaining outside in the garden, but we decided that it wasn't quite BBQ weather.
Garden Party
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Henford House to enjoy our annual garden party, which was hosted in our beautiful garden on 14th July. The event was opened by Mayor Tony Nicklen and Sarah from Dorothy House.
We hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a BBQ, a tombola stall, live music, balloon making, various stalls, face painting, a raffle and much more.
The event was enjoyed by the residents and everyone who came. The band played a wide range of music, which had people up and dancing.
Staff at Henford House made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments, such as hot dogs, burgers and cream teas, which were prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – and we must not forget all the volunteers who came to help us out it; it really was a team effort!
Armed Forces Day
Residents and staff at Henford House paid their respects to soldiers past and present on this past Armed Forces Day on Thursday 5th July.
Armed Forces Day was a busy time for our Warminster-based military, so we caught up with them when they came to lunch with with residents. A chance to show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from the currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
This year, Henford House welcomed Cpl Andy Dunt and L.Cpl. Mike Koranteng. Residents enjoyed their company as they chatted amongst them at the lunch table. Some of our gentlemen residents found it extremely interesting to share their memories with the soldiers.
Church Services
Every Thursday morning a church service takes place in the main lounge at 11.30am. It rotates each week with Holy Communion, Prayer group and Morning Worship.
When there is a 5th Thursday in the month one of their volunteers Pam plays the piano and they take part in Songs of Praise.
Vivian Laurent, General Manager at the home, said: “Staff at Henford House are dedicated to making sure that the residents continue with what would have been their usual pattern of living when they were still at home. Their choice is whether they attend. Henford try where possible to keep life as normal as possible.''
Professionals' Breakfast
Or Professionals' Breakfast Morning took place on Wednesday 20th June. Professionals from various care organisations within the community had a chance to meet and network over breakfast provided by us. Guests also had a chance to take a tour of our beautiful home and asked many questions they had about care.
