Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Christmas Market

We hosted a Christmas Market on Saturday 1st December, which was a huge success. Members of the public were offered mince pies and mulled wine upon arrival. Some stall holders were raising money for their own chosen charities. It was a really enjoyable afternoon for all.

Children in Need

Children in Need

Staff at Henford House dressed up to raise money for Children in Need. They certainly surprised the residents!

Staff were also presenting Lauren with a baby shower, where they gave her flowers and presents, wishing her well for the upcoming birth of her second child.

Remembrance Sunday

Henford House commemorated Remembrance Day on Thursday 15th November, and we were joined with members of the local Royal British Legion.

Residents marked Remembrance Day with a church service held by Eva from Christ Church, and observed a 2 minute silence in respect for the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

Poppies made in the residents' weekly pottery sessions, held by volunteers Alvin and Sally, were on display in our gardens.

Members of the Royal British Legion then joined the residents for lunch with members and residents sharing their individual memories of their time in service.

October Open Day

October Open Day

We hosted a Greek-themed open day with a live vocalist, who got everyone up singing and dancing. We had a Greek menu throughout the afternoon and everyone dressed to impress – Greek style!

Spanish Day

Spanish Day

Residents and staff enjoyed a Spanish-themed day with lots of Spanish food, sangria, Spanish music and castanet classes with volunteer, Jonathan.

Resident, Kalem, got into the spirit of things by wearing his Spanish shirt and hat, which he has accumulated after visiting Spain on a number of occasions. He and his wife, Yvonne, talked about their experiences whilst there, even watching the bull fights.

Kalem was joined for lunch with his wife, who then stayed on into the afternoon, enjoying the music and tapas.
