Activities at Harper Fields Care Home

There is always something to do here at Harper Fields and always someone to assist the residents in any activity they wish to take part in. We have entertainers come into the home to sing and play instruments on a weekly basis, as well as visits from PAT dogs, hairdressers, massage therapists and nail technicians to pamper those who live here. Residents' spiritual needs are taken into account at Harper Fields; we have regular services from the Catholic and Methodist church, in addition to the Church of England, and for our non-religious residents, we have a weekly calming and peaceful ‘mindfulness and meditation group,’ which is very popular, especially for those living with dementia. Residents often like to attend cinema evenings to watch their favourite films on the big screen (complete with sweets and popcorn), or develop new skills at our computer classes, where they can learn how to Skype their families in other countries. Our activities are tailored to suit the individual interests and capabilities of residents and our specialised equipment enables those we support to enjoy everything we have to offer.

Life at Harper Fields Care Home

In the gardens

March has seen some beautiful sunny weather and the residents wasted no time in making the most of it and accessing the beautiful grounds around Harper Fields.

They revelled in the daffodils in full bloom and some of the residents picked bunches to display in their rooms.

There was some bird spotting as well as enjoying the wildlife – namely watching the resident squirrel climbing trees.

A huge Emirate aeroplane in the distance reminded everyone of holidays enjoyed over the years and memories were shared of happy travels.

A lovely start to spring despite difficult times.

Barney comes to visit

Everyone is looking forward to seeing Barney again as he loves cuddles and our wonderful residents love to give them out!

He also loves carrots so we always make sure there are plenty of carrots for Barney to enjoy when he visits.

Barney will do most things for a carrot so he shows off his talents which delights everyone. Barney is such a good boy and a lovely pet therapy dog. We all really love him and his visits and can't wait to see him again soon.

Circle dancing

We recently tried circle dancing at Harper Fields and Oh my!!! What fun we had. As well as learning traditional seated dancing from as far away as Finland, South America and China, We played musical instruments like the conga drums, Timbrels and meini tambourines. So as well as a learning curve we had a lot of laughs. We cannot wait to do it all again.

Valentine's Day celebrations

Today at Harper Fields love was in the air as our resident couples enjoyed a delicious Valentine’s Day lunch. We had tantalizing tomato soup, steamed saucy seabass and sinful strawberry pavlova, all washed down with a blushing pink wine for the ladies and a cold glass of beer for the gentlemen. Valentine’s Day cards, red roses and of course the best bity…’Milk tray’ chocolates were passed over the tables, a truly lovely time was had by all!
