Activities at Friston House Care Home

Our activity coordinators are constantly working to stimulate our residents both mentally and physically by organising group and individual activities for every one within the home to participate in. We have regular outings in our mini bus to various attractions within the area and in the summer we like to take our residents to the seaside, where they can enjoy fish and chips by the beach. Our activity programme is just one of the important aspects of the care home and we try our best to arrange the activities that our residents will enjoy.

David Johnson

Head of Activities

I am David, I have been working at Friston House since December of 2023.

I have a background in the visitor attraction sector as an events and activities manager, working with families to create engaging, fun activities that result in long-lasting memories. It is my belief that care home activities should be just as fun, engaging, inclusive to all and worthwhile. Either as a group, self-led or on a one-to-one basis.

Dementia Awareness Event

Dementia Awareness Event

Can we start by saying a big thank you to the fire crew who spent the afternoon with us; their community officers joined us to offer support and advice about living with dementia.

We also had two special performances from Anisha & Cameron, who are up & coming young artists.

Then, to really put the cherry on top, a few of us got the chance to get close to a fire truck; we tried on some of their gear and had a blast on the water cannon! What a way to spend to our Friday Afternoon!

Jasmine's Dream Boats & Petticoats!

Jasmine's Dream Boats & Petticoats!

Every so often, we visit our friends at Winchester House. Recently, they had an amazing performance from Jasmine, complete with lots of singing & dancing. We finished off by having lunch with everyone.

Thank you so much for your hospitality, Winchester House. All of the residents had such a great time; smiles & laughter were not in short supply.

All Saints Primary School & Green Fingers!

All Saints Primary School & Green Fingers!

The lovely year 6 students, from All Saints Primary School, joined us for a spot of gardening! Working as a team, we got the job done! Planting new flowers, rearranging flowers & getting on with some weeding; we can't wait for all our beautiful flowers to bloom, ready for the Summer.

Meanwhile, inside, pupils enjoyed playing snakes & ladders, jenga & dominos, as well as finishing jigsaw puzzles with the brilliant residents.

Everyone had such a great time, and thank you very much to all the staff & students from All Saints for joining us. We are looking forward to your next visit!

Polly's Garden Show

Polly's Garden Show

With all this beautiful weather we have been enjoying, we all thought we'd invite the wonderful Polly Raymond to perform for us in the garden and enjoy some fruity beverages! We really had a lovely time singing & dancing all afternoon. Visitors said how they could hear our beautiful singing an entire street away!

Upchurch Barn Yard Farm

Upchurch Barn Yard Farm

One morning, we set off to visit the animals at the Upchurch Barn Yard Farm; we got up close with the ponies, llamas, goats & chickens! We finished off with a lovely hot cuppa tea & biscuits. We all enjoyed the fresh air and meeting all of the farm animals!

Celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday

Celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday

For Her Majesty's birthday celebrations, we had a brilliant performance from the very talented Maxine Ruggs. We enjoyed a buffet spread with lots of dancing & singing; our staff got up and did the hokey pokey several times. We hope Queen Elizabeth had a brilliant day; we sure had fun celebrating!
