Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Celebrating 10 & 15 Years

Celebrating 10 & 15 Years

Two members of our staff at Derham House are celebrating their time working for Barchester.

Vivien Vernon, who is one of our fantastic Nurses on Memory Lane, has been with us for over 15 years; and Joanne Owens, our Admin Receptionist, who started as a Healthcare Assistant, has been with us for 10 years.

They are both very much appreciated by everyone who works alongside them and by residents and their loved ones.

Well done, both!

Wearing Pink for Breast Cancer

Wearing Pink for Breast Cancer

We wore pink for breast cancer awareness. Joanne, our Admin Receptionist, baked some cakes with pink icing, which were divine. We all had a mini tea party in the reception area, listening to classical music.

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

We opened our doors to the public to celebrate Barchester's 25th anniversary with a fantastic party.

As the theme was silver, everyone got glammed up in their best silver attire – staff included!

We enjoyed our vocalist, Carly Anne Hipson, who sang through the decades, and residents had a great time singing & dancing along.

There was a beautiful spread on the open buffet, which included smoked salmon, sandwiches, pastries, cheese boards & cakes, which were all washed down with lots of wine and other beverages.

Bingo!

Bingo!

Both the Bridge and Foxhall units got together for a few games of bingo. We had our disco light and microphone, so everyone could hear clear, which made the atmosphere even better.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

On Friday 29th September we held a Macmillan coffee morning at Derham House. We had some very yummy cakes, made by our kitchen and some by of our residents family and friends.

We raised a fantastic £140.44!!! We are so pleased with the outcome...A big thank you to all who attended and took part.

Scrabble Group

Scrabble Group

Today at Derham house we started up our scrabble group. It was great for us all to get our brains working to think of words we could use during the game.

Everyone really enjoyed it, and we have decided to get together for a game on a weekly basis, and hope more people join us as word spreads.
