Activities at Derham House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

Life at Derham House Care Home
Pet Therapy
Grace the Chihuahua came to visit all of us here at Derham House on Wednesday 4th October. She is a much-loved regular and she looks forward to seeing everyone as much as they do her. Grace comes in once a week and has lots of treats!
Birthday Bash
We celebrated a lovely lady's birthday at Derham House recently. We had beautiful cake and lots of fun!
End of Summer BBQ
On Saturday 2nd September, we held our End of Summer BBQ. There was live entertainment from a group called 'Reflections', who played and sang beautifully.
It was such a lovely, sunny day for residents and their loved ones to get together.
We do love a party at Derham House and can’t wait for the next one!
Employee of the Month - August
Congratulations to our Nurse and Head of Foxhall Unit, who was named August's Employee of the Month. Well done and thank you for all our hard work!
Another 90th at Derham
On 19th August, we celebrated a resident's 90th birthday on our Memory Lane unit!
We had cards and presents for him – and he was overwhelmed – which brought a tear to our eyes.
He used to enjoy model making, so we bought him some wooden aeroplanes from a craft shop that he can put together and paint.
It was so nice to see him so happy!
Arts & Crafts
We started a new arts & crafts group at Derham House recently. We decorated some empty jars with lots of knick-knacks and glue. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but everyone still had a good go – and most were very happy with the results.
We now have beautiful jars with a personal touch that can be used in our bedrooms.
