Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Arts & Crafts

Arts & Crafts

We started a new arts & crafts group at Derham House recently. We decorated some empty jars with lots of knick-knacks and glue. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but everyone still had a good go – and most were very happy with the results.

We now have beautiful jars with a personal touch that can be used in our bedrooms.

Happy 90th Birthday

Happy 90th Birthday to this lovely lady!

She had a wonderful day with lots of drinks, cake and photos with staff and her daughter, who brought along a lot of bottles of Buck's Fizz).

Our Own Raised Flower Beds

Our Own Raised Flower Beds

At Derham house, we founded a gardening group that is responsible for the raised flower beds. We set this up because, at our last residents' meeting, we were asked if there were parts of the garden which residents could help to maintain. In the group, certain people have their own tasks, such as watering the plants or weeding.

Derham House Bake Off

Derham House Bake Off

Derham House have recently started our baking group. We made something a little simple to get us going: muffins.  It was great fun and messy to do, and was even better to eat after! We are all sharing ideas for what we are baking next week.

Men's Lunch & Football

Men's Lunch & Football

Today at Derham House, we went back to 1966 and, over a curry and a few beers, we watched the World Cup  final, when England beat West Germany 4 - 2.

It was nice for the male residents to bond and have some quality man time.

We are going to have more sports events in the future so that the guys can get together more often.

Pet-Assisted Therapy

Pet-Assisted Therapy

We have arranged for a PAT dog to visit us here at Derham House on a weekly basis.

Sam the dog is so lovely and brings a smile to the faces of so many residents.

Sam is a therapy dog and loves being made a fuss of.

We plan to get some treats for him for his future visits!
