Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Employee of the Month - December

Employee of the Month - December

Our Employee of the Month for December is Deputy Manager, Crina Lee.

Congratulations from all the residents and staff here at Derham House for all the hard work that you do. You are truly amazing; we would be lost without you.

Christmas is Coming!

Christmas is Coming!

We've been putting up our Christmas trees here at Derham House. We have our gorgeous, large tree in the reception area.

Over the next few weeks, we will be hosting arts and crafts sessions to make things for the festive period.

We at Derham House are looking forward to celebrating with residents and their loved ones.

Flower Power

Flower Power

Our beautiful flowers were donated to us by the Sainsbury's in Hornchurch, as always – we would like to thank them for their kindness.

Some people wanted to keep their arrangements in the communal areas, such as the lounge, and others wanted to them to brighten up their bedrooms. Either way, we all got very creative with the designs.

Board Game Day

Board Game Day

We recently enjoyed a board game day at Derham House, where we played Snakes & Ladders, Chess and a variety of card games. We also introduced our new game, which is called 'Getting to Know Me' – like in many other games, each player is given a counter and rolls a die to move around the board, however, this time there are loads of cards to pick up that ask questions, with the overall aim of helping players to get to know their opponents better.

Our Employee of the Month for October is Activities Coordinator, Terry Chaplin. Congratulations from all the residents and staff here at Derham House!

Armistice Day

Armistice Day

At Derham House, we remembered the fallen soldiers and the end of World War One.

All residents and staff took part in the two minutes silence at 11:00 a.m. whilst we watched BBC1.

We also raised money for the Royal British Legion by selling poppies to residents, staff and visitors over the last few weeks.
