Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Celebrating St Patrick's Day

We had lots of fun and laughter at Chater Lodge as we celebrated St Patrick's Day in the best way we know - with some Guinness in handmade leprechaun hat cups, and some shamrock-shaped biscuits made by our Head Chef Nina. Cheers!

Jack and Phyllis enjoy the garden

Jack and Phyllis have been married for many years and enjoy living here together at Chater Lodge. They like to make the most of these sunny March days with a stroll around the garden.

Vera's Shackleton Passion

Vera is fascinated by famous explorers and her favourite is Ernest Shackleton. Maria showed her BBC coverage of the recent rediscovery of Shackleton’s ship, the Endeavour, located on the Antarctic seabed in near perfect condition. At Chater Lodge it is important to find out residents’ passions, likes and dislikes, so we can engage them in meaningful discussions and make our one-to-one activities person centred. Vera was thrilled to see the recent coverage and we look forward to watching fuller programmes with her when they become available.

Happy Birthday to a top Midwife

Sheila enjoyed celebrating her birthday with friends at Chater Lodge. We are always fascinated to hear about her professional life, delivering countless babies in her career as a midwife. She excelled in her field and was awarded the Silver Griffin belt, as well as being the youngest ward sister at Grantham Hospital. Sheila uses an empathy doll to demonstrate how she cared for babies. Residents’ life histories are very important to us as they support our reminiscence activities and help use design person-centres activities.

A manicure for our newest resident

Pat (blue cardigan) moved to Chater Lodge very recently and loves a manicure with Activities Coordinator, Maria. Longer term resident Daphne also loves to have a regular nail polish.

Vera's Birthday Trip

Vera was very excited to be picked up from Chater Lodge by family for a trip to her daughter's house. The family put on a little party at home for Vera's birthday.
