Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant
Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019.
My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents.
I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Mini bus Trip
Phyllis loves to shop! Phyllis was overwhelmed that she was the first resident to use our mini bus. Off she went with Zoe, our general manager, to several shops. They enjoyed looking at clothes, homeware and enjoyed reminiscing over a hula hoop that she used to play with as a little girl. On Phyllis' shopping trip she was able to buy treats for the rest of the residents back at Chater Lodge.

Pamper Sessions
What a wonderful day for our residents! They got to pamper themselves with a visit to the hair salon, where they received a soothing hand massage and a manicure with their favorite colors. They also enjoyed the calming sounds of nature and the pleasant aromas of lavender and jasmine. They felt valued and appreciated, and their smiles brightened up the whole place. We are so happy to see them happy!

Virtual Reality
What a wonderful day for our amazing residents at Chater Lodge! They got to experience a fantastic virtual reality head set, kindly donated by one of our staff members. They had a blast exploring the underwater world and meeting all kinds of sea creatures. They can't wait to see what other adventures await them in virtual reality!

St. George's Day
What a wonderful day we had for St George's Day! We had so much fun celebrating the patron saint of England with different activities. We tested our knowledge with quizzes, enjoyed themed activity books and had a delicious meal served by none other than St George himself! It was a memorable and festive occasion for all of us!

Pets at the Palace
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton were treated to a fascinating session of sensory storytelling by Art Historian, Jon Sleigh, and the Historic Royal Palaces community team.
The Historic Royal Palaces are a charity who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world so that we can all enjoy them. They tell the stories of monarchs we know, and the lives we don’t. They let us explore these wonderful properties along with the animals that lived there and set our minds racing.
In his special virtual fur-filled session, Jon explored several royal palaces through the exploits some of their more unusual and unexpected inhabitants. With four-legged companions in mind, residents were given the opportunity to experience the palaces in a whole new sensory way.
