Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

Staying cool

What could be better than a strawberry split to help us stay cool on a lovely sunny day?

Enjoying a hot May day

At Chater Lodge the whole team takes responsibility for caring for residents and meeting all their needs. Today members of our Housekeeping Team took residents outside to make sure they got their vitamin D. Margaret and Joyce loved the sun on the hottest day of the year so far. Let's hope there are plenty more sunny days to come!

Forget-me-nots for Dementia Awareness

This week is Dementia Awareness Week and at Chater Lodge we have been making a display of forget-me-nots, the symbol of the Alzheimers Society. Margaret was keen to paint as many flowers as she could, using subtle shades of blue and purple.

Olive is resident of the day

Olive enjoyed her turn to be Resident of the Day at Chater Lodge. Olive loves art and her choice of materials was pastels. She drew pictures of residents and Maria, our Activities Coordinator. Live likes doing portraits and landscapes.

In the herb garden

At the Chater Lodge Gardening Club, Matt the gardener, helped residents to sow some herb seeds to eventually go in  the herb garden for our kitchen team to use in our meals. We will also be able to use the flowers and leaves as a sensory activity, enjoying the lovely aromas.

Chess Club with Oundle School

Raymond loves it when the pupils of Oundle School visit Chater Lodge.  He is passionate about playing Chess and has 54 chess sets. His first one was made of bone and he bought it from a German soldier when he was in the army.
