Activities at Broadway Halls Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Scott Bates

Activities Coordinator

Hi I'm Scott, and I am thrilled to be the Activities Coordinator at Broadway Halls. Our residents are special people with many wonderful stories to tell about their lives, I enjoy putting smiles on their faces as often as I can. I love to 'entertain' and aim to ensure that every resident's interests and hobbies are supported. I have worked in care and in activities in previous roles, and I love my job!

Community Links

We have some great community links and some of the best are our links with local schools. We have children visiting us to perform songs, dances, reading books and much more and we also receive invites to attend their choir performances and game days. This week we received an unexpected surprise when a teacher from Tipton Green Primary School bought in a box full of letters and drawings to give support and reminders that our ladies and gents are being thought about and not forgotten. We also received art work from Fairy tales Nursery in Dudley where their little ones, aged 3-4, made some fantastic fun pieces!

It bought a tear to their eyes and this lovely gesture was very much appreciated. Our residents are now busy in writing letters of thanks, and we hope the children will be able to see them on their return to school.

Oomph Chair Exercise

We love our community work and this month we were lucky enough to be able to get out and take our popular Oomph chair based exercise class to our local Age Concern assisted living and day support group. It was a great morning with everybody joining in and we have been asked to do this on a regular basis and also to host some coffee mornings. We are more than happy to help!

National Nutritional and Hydration Day

We celebrated National Nutritional and Hydration day recently by getting residents trying new and exciting smoothies, cold teas and herbal teas. We had fun trivia and facts about the drinks and the goodness they bring. Not all were very popular but everybody got involved and tasted fruit that they hadn’t ever tasted before! It was a great afternoon with lots of laughs, especially with a blender that had a mind of its own!

Pom-Pom Queens

Our residents have been getting involved with a charity called Just Straight Talk. Every Thursday, we attend a community centre for a coffee morning and make pom-poms that get distributed in the community where, once found, get moved to another place to raise awareness for isolation and loneliness. So far, some of the pom-poms made by our residents have been moved and found in Australia, Greece, California and Spain!

The coffee morning has proved to be hugely beneficial to our residents, and especially for one lady who now socialises more because of this!

The residents have since began pom-pom making for projects within the home starting with the Rainbow of Positivity! More projects are beginning and it’s wonderful to see them so dedicated and excited about an activity!

Oomphtastic!

Here at Broadway Halls, the residents love a bit of chair based exercise provided by Matt and Julie as part of the Oomph team!

The exercise class is about positively changing the impact of ageing by making sure the sessions include social interaction, physical mobility and mental stimulation.

There was nothing but laughter heard all around when Oomph is going on, and staff ensure everybody is included, no matter what their mobility levels are. The classes run 3 times a week and also include relaxation, chair football and volleyball!

There really is something for everybody when it comes to Oomph!
