Activities at Wykeham House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rachel Stevens

Activities Lead

I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

High Tea with the Newly appointed Mayoress of Horley

Wykeham House, recently welcomed Cllr Samantha Marshall, the newly appointed Cllr and Mayor of Horley, for a garden party and afternoon tea with residents and guests of the home. The visit took place to welcome everyone in the community back into the lovely gardens of the home and to thank all the care staff for their continued hard work and commitment throughout the last eighteen months.

Getting Fruity

We understand the importance of eating your five a day here at Wykeham House, so today we thought we would have some fun with fruit too. There was peeling, chopping and even designing the best looking fruit animals too. Lots of fun and tasted delicious.

Fathers day celebrations

We celebrated all the men in the home this weekend not just the dads. They were treated to chocs, beer and a delicious lunch in the garden, followed by an afternoon watching the football.

Ladies that lunch

Blue skies and sun hats. Staff took some residents out for a delicious lunch. It was so nice to be out and abut enjoying the beautiful weather and taking in some sights of the local country side too.

Tin can alley

Saturday mornings call for a game of tin can alley. These ladies were quite competitive too.

,

Cocktails and Mocktails

It was an afternoon of cocktail making for the Residents at Wykeham House. They learnt how to make them and shake them. Always with the end result being the tasting.
