Meet the Wykeham House Care Home Team

Our staff are what hold the home together. Each one of these team members are dedicated to providing high quality care and services to those we support, and ensuring that residents enjoy all aspects of life at our home. See below to meet some of our friendly faces:

Julia Christodoulides

General Manager

Hi, my name is Julia and I am the General Manager here at Wykeham House. Welcome to our website!

I started working part time as a carer in a local care home when I was 16 whilst finishing my studies. At 18, I left home to start my nursing career and, after qualifying as a registered nurse, I went on to midwifery. After having 2 children,I found working in the NHS difficult to manage and had an opportunity to go back to working in care homes. I got my first management position in 1998 and have never looked back. It is so rewarding to do a job that I enjoy and that I am passionate about.

Peng Li-Poole

Deputy Manager

I began my career in traditional Chinese medicine, assisting in my father’s Clinic in North China, before going on to University to train as a nurse and also qualifying as a beautician. The wider world beckoned and I relocated to the UK in 2005 where I began a career as a senior carer with Barchester. Realizing my greater potential, I advanced to nursing roles in haematology oncology and chemotherapy in the NHS. Then I decided to broaden my ability and career further by re-joining Barchester in a deputy manager role. Here the appeal is the wide-ranging responsibilities and focus on developing skills and relationships to provide the highest standard of care for our residents.
Outside work I love travel, painting and drawing, cooking, music, craft and gardening. I love long coastal walks with my family and Spoodle dog.

Karen Tabalina

Clinical Lead

I qualified as a nurse in 2007 in the Philippines and in the UK in 2011. As clinical lead I ensure that any medical conditions are appropriately monitored and assist with training the staff to manage these conditions. I have worked for Barchester for over 10 years and have been at Wykeham House since 2020. My favorite thing about my job is interacting with the residents and caring for them.

Haidee, Fatou

Nurses

Introducing just a couple of our fantastic nursing team. Always on hand 24 hours a day to make sure they provide the best care for everyone's loved ones. Be safe in the knowledge that they are experienced in every aspect of nursing and supporting those living with dementia.

Sandy Morgan

Administrator

I joined Wykeham House in November 2018 as the administrator, and have many years' experience as a bookkeeper. I am loving the variation of my role and the interacting with residents and their loved ones in this beautiful home.

Rachel Stevens

Activities Lead

I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

Rey Zenit

Head Chef

I started working at Wykeham House in October 2023. I have worked as a chef for many years and have worked in hotels and restaurants. I decided I wanted something a bit slower in pace and am keen to give the residents a wonderful dining experience everyday.

Richard Hill

Head of Maintenance

My name is Richard, but people call me Ricardo, Taffy or Welshman, among other named!

I have worked at Wykeham House for over 10 years. I was employed as the Head Chef for the first 5 years, however, since then, l have worked as the Head of Maintenance.

I love my role, as no two days are the same! One minute l am plumber, then next an electrician, then a painter & decorator – just to name a few of the things l do!

The residents are foremost in my thinking and I believe our elders should always be treated with dignity and politeness and, above all, respect. I also enjoy the banter you get with residents and it is nice to hear some of their life stories.

As a member of the Barchester family, l hope to be here for many more years to come, as this is one of the most satisfying jobs l have ever had. I love it!

Ray Chavez

Head of Housekeeping

I have done a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management Engineering in Materials and Testing. I joined Wykeham House as a kitchen porter in 2003 and was promoted to Head of Housekeeping in 2005. I am responsible for the overall operation of the Housekeeping Department and upholding the highest standard of Cleanliness and Safety. While I am going round the home carrying my chores, I always find time to talk to the residents and have a laugh with them. I am good at making them smile.

Val Coomber

Hi, Im Val, I started my role here at Wykeham House in September 2020. I predominantly work on weekends although happy to help the team out and cover holidays and week days if needed.
